It also provided updated sales figures for its top franchises like Rockstar Games\u2019 <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em>. <em>Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em> continues to be a major success for the company with nearly 170 million units sold-in to date. The last major milestone was <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gamingbolt.com\/grand-theft-auto-5-lifetime-sales-cross-165-million-units\">over 165 million units sold as of May 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em> is still the best-selling game of the past decade in the United States based on unit and dollar sales (as per The NPD Group\u2019s data). First released in 2013 and available across three console generations, it remains Take-Two\u2019s biggest success yet (and is the fastest entertainment release to reach $1 billion in retail sales). <em>Grand Theft Auto Online<\/em> is also as popular as ever though specific figures weren\u2019t provided for the same.<\/p>\n<p>Rockstar Games is currently working on the next <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> which Bloomberg\u2019s Jason Schreier <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gamingbolt.com\/grand-theft-auto-6-will-have-a-female-protagonist-targeting-april-2023-to-march-2024-release-rumor\">reported<\/a> as taking place in a \u201cfictional version\u201d of Miami. It will feature a female protagonist who is part of a pair of leading characters based on Bonnie and Clyde. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gamingbolt.com\/grand-theft-auto-6-will-set-creative-benchmark-for-the-series-our-industry-and-for-all-entertainment-take-two-ceo\">development is \u201cwell underway\u201d<\/a> and that Rockstar is \u201cdetermined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though it\u2019s rumored to be targeting a release in the 2024 fiscal year, the sequel could launch as late as 2025.
