Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for May 26th, 2023. Gosh, yesterday was quite the day. Counting the few games that popped after I finished my writing, there were forty-five new games that hit the eShop. Today is a little more low-key, with around ten new games to check out. Our pal Mikhail has a report on the latest news from Marvelous, which is a nice treat. We’ve also got some sales, with a nice list of new ones and a more neutral list of expiring ones for you to check out. Let’s dig in!

News

Rune Factory 6, New Story of Seasons, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion and More Announced at Marvelous Game Showcase

Marvelous just had its own showcase event earlier today and Xseed Games hosted it live on YouTube. This event saw new entries in many series I’ve enjoyed on Switch over the years. The event also had quick updates on the upcoming Loop8 and Fashion Dreamer releases for Nintendo Switch. In terms of major announcement, two new IPs were revealed. Project Magia is a new game in development at Marvelous with Fairy Tail‘s Hiro Mashima handling character designs. Project Life is RPG is a new game aiming to be enjoyed by RPG fans all over. This game is inspired by influential Japanese RPGs from over the years. Release windows were not revealed.

For farming and life simulation, there were four reveals. Rune Factory 6 is in development with Rune Factory: Project Dragon, a spin-off, also in the works. The two Rune Factory games aim to cover the central theme for the series of “East and West”. Going back to Story of Seasons, we have Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, the remake, due next month. Two new Story of Seasons games have been announced. One is a traditional entry while the second one that is further away, is a multiplayer game. I’m curious to see how these two will push the series forward.

The final announcement was Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion from Marvelous’ First Studio. Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is an all-new entry in the third-person mech shooter series aiming to deliver unforgettable Arsenal action. I loved the first Daemon X Machina on both Switch and PC. I’m very excited for this entry. It is worth noting that no platforms have been confirmed for any of the new titles, but most franchises here have seen games release at least or exclusively on Nintendo Switch, so I assume these will also make it over. -Mikhail Madnani

New Releases

Skye Tales ($24.99)

Kind of a relaxed puzzle adventure game where you play as a friendly dragon, cruising around meeting people and helping them out with their stuff. You’ve got a decent-sized world to explore, and you can just mess around as you like in it. There are even a variety of outfits you can dress your dragon up in. Seems cute. Might be what you’re after if you need something chill today.

Fitness Circuit ($49.99)

In case you’ve exhausted Fitness Boxing and Ring Fit Adventure, here’s another fitness game to keep those calories burning. There’s no extra equipment needed for this one, you just have to have the space to do what the game is telling you to do. If nothing else, it certainly seems flashy. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is an exercise I will leave to the reader. Ha, exercise. I’m such a scallywag.

The Blind Prophet ($24.99)

A point-and-click style adventure game with an incredibly striking aesthetic. You play as Apostle Bartholomeus, who has been sent on a divine mission to defeat the evil plaguing the city. Your special Stalker’s Eye can detect demonic corruption and reveal the clues you’ll need to move forward. There are lots of interesting characters to meet, puzzles to solve, and even some minigames to play. Reviews on other platforms were okay, mostly praising the art direction if not necessarily the other bits of the game as much.

Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath ($19.99)

A side-scrolling action game set in feudal Japan featuring two different playable characters. Kensei is a hunk of meat who can fight up close and personal like a pro but is unable to jump, while Ayame is an expert jumper who has long-range attack capabilities. You’ll have to choose the right character for each situation as needed. Probably not too tough to figure out which one you’ll need in any given situation. Aside from that, this looks like a pretty normal action game.

Replikator ($9.99)

Oh hey, a roguelite top-down shooter. How novel. This one has four different characters to play as, each with their own weapons and characteristics. There are lots of enemies to blast, traps to avoid, weapons to collect, and so on. Between each run you can use the resources you’ve collected to buy permanent upgrades. You know how this goes. Up to you if you need another one.

Mystical Mixing ($4.99)

Mix ingredients to create a monster called a Mixie, and then unleash it to explore the world, find treasure, and gather ingredients you can use to mix up their replacements. Capitalism can sometimes be a cruel mistress. As simulation games go this isn’t terribly fancy, but it’s only five bucks. I could see some kids have some fun with it, if nothing else.

Johnny Trigger ($4.99)

A port of a mobile game, and it feels it. Each level sees Johnny making his way through the scene engaging in all kinds of acrobatics, and you basically just have to handle aiming and shooting at the enemies. Even a single bullet will kill Johnny, so aim carefully. Some might enjoy it as an affordable pick-up-and-play experience. I’d recommend giving it a go on your mobile device first, as it is free-to-play. If you like it enough, then you can drop the big five bones.

Protodroid DeLTA ($19.99)

A 3D platformer that takes inspiration from the Mega Man and Mega Man X series in its setting and ethos, all the way down to earn weapons by defeating bosses. The biggest difference is that third dimension, something Mega Man has flirted with to varying results. In the end, there’s a good mix of platforming and combat here, and both are good enough at their job. Just like in the Mega Man X game, there are optional upgrades to collect as well. It certainly does its best to scratch a particular kind of itch, and I imagine it will do just that for some Mega Man fans. Reviews on other platforms have been okay but not great, so keep your expectations at the right level. Our pal Mikhail is working on a review for the Switch version of Protodroid DeLTA.

Hello Kitty and Friends Happiness Parade ($19.99)

This was supposed to come out last month but needed a little extra polish. You might recognize this one from Netflix’s selection of mobile games. It’s a fairly straightforward rhythm game featuring Kitty and some of her pals. You need to march to the beat while switching lanes when necessary. The music isn’t what you would expect, sounding more like something you’d hear in a club than a Sanrio production. I’ll have a review of this one soon, so do look forward to that.

Laser Brain Puzzle: Classic Logic Arcade ($9.99)

Megame’s got another one of these simple puzzlers. Arrange the blocks to reflect the light beams as needed. You can find a million of these for free on your mobile device and save ten bucks if you like.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

There are a couple of Warhammer 40k games on sale because of that Warhammer event yesterday, and I think the Rune Factory games are on sale to celebrate the announcement that another Rune Factory game is coming for unspecified platforms. Otherwise, it’s an odd assortment of games that I’ll leave to you to sort through. Not much in the outbox, so I think you can manage that one too. Sorry, I’m still a little tired from yesterday.

That’s all for today and this week, friends. We’ll be back next week with more new games, more sales, some reviews, and some news. This ended up being a really rough week, but we made it. And now, I can spend the weekend goofing around in Zelda to find more Korok seeds. That’s the reward. I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
