First there was Fallout Shelter, and now there’s The Elder Scrolls: Castles. This latest mobile entry by Bethesda takes the formula laid down by Shelter and applies it to The Elder Scrolls universe.

You play as a royal family who must rule their citizens for generations. Each real life day counts as a year in The Elder Scrolls: Castles, so you can quite quickly rack up a family tree.

It’s quite a deep experience. You train subjects to manage your castle, birth an heir that can rule your kingdom when you perish, and, most importantly, keep your subjects happy.

So It’s Like Fallout Shelter?

Much like Fallout Shelter, the gameplay involves building up your own building. This time it’s a castle rather than a nuclear fallout shelter.

In terms of gameplay, it’s very similar though. You place rooms and assign your subjects to work in them, and they’ll generate resources that you can use to expand your castle.

These rooms include workstations, monuments, your throne room, and more. They’re all lovingly-decorated so you can create a very pretty little castle.

Is That a Hint of Yes, Your Majesty?

One of my favourite features of The Elder Scrolls: Castles is one that Bethesda has borrowed from Yes, Your Majesty: kingdom ruling.

Your subjects will visit you in your throne room, requesting your support with various conundrums. You have to then make key decisions, which can determine your kingdom’s future.

Battling still plays a part in The Elder Scrolls: Castles, though not in the traditional first person Elder Scrolls fashion.

You create your own heroes, equip them with gear, then send them out to battle recognisable foes from the series’ history in a wide variety of quests.

Where Can I Get The Elder Scrolls: Castles?

Here’s the sad news: The Elder Scrolls: Castles isn’t fully out yet. It’s available in beta, and only to a select few at the moment. You can try your hand at downloading it on Google Play though.
