2022 Is Getting More Pokemon Games (Yes, Really)

After the successful launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it would’ve been safe to assume we’d have to wait a while for another major entry into the Pokemon series. However, Nintendo announced over the weekend that two brand new games will be joining the mainstream releases of the Pokemon franchise.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will launch late in 2022, available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

“Trainers will once again embark on an epic journey of discovery and exploration,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be an adventure unlike any other, and I cannot wait to share this incredible experience with all of you.”

Both Scarlet and Violet promise to take an “evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series” as Trainers are introduced to an open world without borders, seamlessly blending wilderness with civilization. The team at GAME FREAK Inc also confirmed that three new starter Pokemon will be introduced including Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon, or Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon.

It was also confirmed that Pokemon HOME will be available for both Scarlet and Violet.
