3 Games Within Games We’d Really Like to See

For all the thousands of hours that go into creating mega games like Red Dead Redemption, there’s one feature that raises them to another level.

That is the inclusion of a few mini-games within the game itself. Arguably, it’s Rockstar who are, well, the real stars at this. In both the already-mentioned RDR2 and their even more famous title, Grand Theft Auto, they have made a specialism of including these.

The former has its tense poker showdowns, and the latter has its now-legendary Diamond Casino and Resort. Both add to players’ enjoyment of the main games. So here are three other “game within a game” ideas that we think could really fly.

Bingo

You might think that it’s an old-fashioned game, but the online revolution really has brought the game into the 21st century. You only have to look at the huge choice of online bingo at Paddy Power to see that it’s a game that can be themed to tie in with almost any genre. For quiz and guessing games, there are “Deal or No Deal” versions of bingo. Then there are others like Rainbow Riches that could slot perfectly into a certain kind of fantasy game.

The great benefit of slotting in a game of bingo into another is that it’s so quick and easy to play – not to mention being a potential way to raise some in-game funds.

Soccer tricks and skills

Anyone who’s followed the evolution of the FIFA range of soccer games from EA Sports will know how much it has developed over the 20+ years that it has existed. Features have come and gone, more and more teams have been added and the action has become ever-more realistic.

But, while the action has generally been all about beating other teams, there hasn’t been much focus on the skills of individual players. Surely there could be a game option to pick a player and see just how many ball skills they possess. After all, it’s a genuine area of ability and there are even records that are held for it in the real world for many different kinds of Keepie Uppie. Plus, it would be an ideal way to create a leader board to see which FIFA online players could notch up the highest number or longest duration.

Jousting

The final suggestion is a little left-field. But it could be a great way to test the skills of characters in any medieval-themed game. As far as we can tell, the ancient art of charging at each other on horseback and trying to dislodge an opponent with a pole hasn’t featured since the 1983 Atari game of the same name. So, it must be long overdue for a revival and would certainly add a little more historical authenticity to a particular kind of game.

Of course, there are plenty more “games within games” that you might like to see introduced, but these are our top three. Now it’s up to the game developers to make them happen!
