Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 1st, 2023. We start off our Friday on the right foot, with a hot news drop from our pal Mikhail. When his typing hits 88 words per half-minute, you’re going to see some serious… ca-ca. Then, it’s on to the new games. The highlight of the day is the release of 30XX, which is here to show that it’s better late than never when it comes to great games. Beyond that, things get very… quirky. But that is part of the fun of the eShop, isn’t it? After the summaries, it’s time for the lists of new and expiring sales for the day. Quite a lot in that inbox this time. Let’s get to work!

Great Scott! PowerWash Simulator Is Going Back to the Future

Well, that was super unexpected. FuturLab and Square Enix just announced the PowerWash Simulator Back to the Future Special Pack set for release later this year on all platforms. PowerWash Simulator has had some excellent DLC across free and paid content recently, but today’s announcement is a welcome surprise. It doesn’t look like FuturLab needs roads where they are going. This pack will take you back in time to clean movie sets and props inspired by the franchise. These include Doc Brown’s van, the Time Machine, Hill Valley Clocktower, the Holomax Theatre, and Doc’s Time Train. The DLC, priced at $7.99, will add new achievements as well on supported platforms. New Releases

30XX ($19.99)

The sequel to the well-regarded 20XX finally makes its way to the Switch today, allowing those of us who aren’t doing the PC gaming thing to play this roguelite action-platformer on our humble little consoles. Oh, but if the roguelite elements bothered you with the previous game, you can actually play this one in Mega Mode where the levels are fixed and provide an experience more like some Capcom game whose name I can’t recall. On the tip of my tongue. This went over really well on PC, and you can find out what I think when my review goes up early next week.

Bakeborough ($5.99)

A self-described cute bakery RPG, Bakeborough features action-based combat, exploration, and upgrades that involve swapping out your internal organs. It’s a weird one, for sure. You can pull out your own eyes to look for secrets, steal organs from your buddies, date a bun, and battle evil insects who are trying to eat you and everyone you love. If you’re looking for a strange game to play today, this is probably the one.

Big Farm Story ($34.99)

Here’s the latest generic Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons-inspired game, this one from a publisher that has cleverly named itself Goodgame Studio. Surely no bad game could come from a studio with that name? Anyway, fix up the abandoned farm your grandfather left behind, grow produce, take care of livestock, and interact with members of the community. Like, it is walking exactly on the line without taking so much as a step off of it. I don’t think I’d go for it, but you’re the mayor of your own funds.

Gastro Force ($6.99)

A first-person shooter set inside the guts of a giant alien creature. It’s broken down into thirty levels, and you get a variety of weapons to deal with the surprising variety of monsters inside there. There are even boss battles, which suggests that there is a hierarchy to the guts monsters. Best not to think too much about it. Personally I’m not too into “belly of the beast” scenarios, but if you’re into it then you might find this a bit of affordable fun.

Ralph and the Blue Ball ($2.99)

A simple hidden object game about a dog looking for his toys. In particular, he really wants his blue ball. Explore eight levels to find Ralph’s thirteen toys. It’s not very long and not particularly interesting, but the low price and decent pixel art might be enough to satisfy some.

Otoko Cross: Pretty Boys Dropout! ($6.99)

Slide the blocks, make matches, and drop the Pretty Boys to the exits in forty-five stages of puzzles. Learn the back stories of nine boys and unlock a variety of outfits and backgrounds that you can use to build custom scenes and take pictures with. Nothing fancy, but this series has clearly found an audience out there and I imagine this game will continue the trend.

Pixel Game Maker Series Ninja Sneaking VS: Battle On The Couch ($6.00)

This is a multiplayer only game. Anywhere from two to four players can join in, but you have to have at least two. One player acts as the Defender, while the others are the Intruders. The Defender places obstacles and controls enemy ninjas, while the Intruders must proceed to the goal as fast as they can. Seems amusing enough for the small price it’s asking. If you host gaming nights with friends or family you might want to give it a go.

Dissolved – Chapter One ($9.99)

Just a glance, this appears to be Wario Ware but dark and gritty. A young woman with mental health issues is seeing her real-life problems as video games, which manifest as minigames based on retro games. They’re all one or two button affairs, and things don’t really go as you might expect at times. So yes, figure out what you need to do and do it quickly. A story will be told as you go, but that Chapter One subtitle tells me that we’re probably not getting an ending to that story right now. Well, I know some people like this kind of theme. Here you go, enjoy.

Wow, what a nice assortment today. Our pal Mikhail’s much-loved Two Point Campus hits a new low price along with its DLCs, Atari 50 has its sharpest discount yet, and the Persona series is joined by stablemate Etrian Odyssey for some line-wide good values.
