CITY CONNECTION have seemingly made it their mission to push old classics into the modern era of gaming. Their latest launch is that of Akai Katana Shin on Xbox.

Available right now, Akai Katana Shin on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S will set you back £24.99 in cash. That may seem a huge wedge to drop on a game, but when you realise the power of Akai Katana Shin, you may well consider it value for money.

CITY CONNECTION on a shoot ’em up mission

Pushed out via CITY CONNECTION, in the same way as they have previously with the likes of GUNBIRD, this one is a bit of a military game; one focused on the Japanese way of life. It plays as a horizontal shoot ’em up – and looks to be a bit of a bullet-hell affair.

In Akai Katana Shin you are whisked off to the Taisho era. Whilst the rapid economic growth may be a positive, the Guardians and Mugen tearing the world apart are not. It’s here where you come in.

The usual SHMUP antics look to take place in Akai Katana Shin, but this is far from a standard fare. In fact, there are three games included – and that seemingly makes the £24.99 price tag all the more reasonable, eh?

A trio of shoot ’em up titles

We’ve got Akai Katana in place, and that is followed by Akai Katana Shin. Rounding things out is that of Akai Katana Zetsu.

Akai Katana

The first arcade game of the series released in 2010. Supports two players.

Akai Katana Shin

A home console version with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and new game features such as Hagane and Katana.

Akai Katana Zetsu

Based on Akai Katana with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Game mechanics have been adjusted for balance.

There’s tons going on in these games too. Expect to find online leaderboards, replay options, score attacks and a variety of settings. It’s like CITY CONNECTION have realised that modern day gamers need more options – and they are giving them to them.

Game Description
