Atletico Madrid vs Espanyol Match Analysis and Prediction

Both Atletico Madrid and Espanyol will be looking to bounce back to winning ways in La Liga when they face off at the Civitas Metropolitano in their Matchday 13 tie on Sunday evening.

Atletico Madrid have had a rough week with the side first picking up a 3-2 away defeat to Cadiz in their last La Liga fixture last weekend, which ended their six-match unbeaten run in the league, before following up with a 2-1 loss at Porto in the midweek in the Champions League.

The defeat saw them finish at the bottom of a Champions League group for the first time in the club history and they will now only compete in the domestic campaigns for the rest of the season following the elimination.

There is an eight-point gap between Atletico in third and  Barcelona in second place in  La Liga standings, which Diego Simeone’s side will now focus on bridging and after all that has happed before, a win on Saturday feels like a must for Simeone’s men.

Atletico have won all their last three meeting against Espanyol at Metropolitano and should look to draw confidence from that as they seek to get back on track.

Espanyol have been struggling for form in the recent weeks in La Liga, winning just one of their last eight fixtures.

The run has them hovering just above the relegation zone, with two places and one point separating them and the danger zone.

They picked up a 1-1 draw at Mallorca last time out, making it three winless matches in La Liga and will need to quickly turn around their fortunes if they are to avoid dropping into the bottom three.
