Australian Gets Decade Jail Term for Crown Casino Killing

A Supreme Court judge in Australia has sentenced a father-of-three to a decade behind bars for an unprovoked fatal attack on a patron at Melbourne’s Crown Casino.

Tyson Armstrong learned his fate on Friday for the vicious attack that took place in March of last year. The 28-year-old was walking through Crown Casino Melbourne with his girlfriend when he encountered Luke Francis, referred to in local media as a “beloved tradie.”

According to accounts of the incident heard in court, Francis tried to walk away from Armstrong despite being taunted. However, Armstrong grabbed the 29-year-old victim from behind before punching him in the face twice, once with a closed fist and then with an open hand.

Francis died in hospital a few days later after his family turned off his life support

Despite the best efforts of his girlfriend, casino staff, and paramedics, Francis died in hospital a few days later after his family turned off his life support. The bleeding on his brain proved too much for any chance of recovery.

Speaking in court when delivering his verdict on Friday, Supreme Court Justice Andrew Tinney deemed Armstrong a “violent, drunken thug.” He will be eligible for parole after eight years.
