S-Tier classes

  • Lord
  • Knight
  • Priestess
  • Hoplite
  • Thief
  • Hunter

These are the classes in Unicorn Overlord that I’ve noticed to be standouts in combat. Alain as the Lord class boasts a well-rounded offensive and defensive class that can protect allies in battle. As the party leader, a Lord can gain extra Valor Points after defeating enemy units.

The Knight is another great class for both offense and defense and is effective against infantry-based enemies like Housecarls. Both Clive and Adel are a part of this class. Then we have the Priestess, which is Scarlett’s class. I like that the Priestess can provide healing assists as the party leader, and she’s good at healing and support skills in general.

Hoplites like Hodrick are excellent defenders with their hulking shields to protect allies from devastating hits in battle. As the party leader, they can also take less damage from ranged assists. The Thief is a favorite of mine since they can evade nearly all attacks and steal PP from enemies. You gain access to this class early on with Travis, but later you can get Gammel as a Thief.

Lastly, Hunters are another S-tier class due to them being able to target foes with high evasion. They’re also effective against flying enemies and can provide ranged assists as the party leader. Rolf serves as a great Hunter character.

A-Tier classes

  • Witch
  • Gryphon Knight
  • Shaman
  • Cleric
  • Warrior

While these may not be as good as the S-tier classes, the A-tier classes are still great in their own right. Witches like Yahna can both deal magick attacks and imbue allies’ attacks with magick. A Witch can also provide magick assists to ally units.

The Gryphon Knight is one of the only few flying classes with high evasion, attack, and magick defense. They’re great for ignoring traps and terrain blockages. Then there’s the Shaman class, which is Selvie’s class, that can debuff enemies and steal PP like the Thief class.

Clerics like Sharon are your essential healers and support characters, but they’re only well suited with high-HP classes, making them less versatile. Warriors are good offensive fighters and they’re one of the few classes who can break barricades and gates as party leaders.

B-Tier classes

  • Sellsword
  • Soldier
  • Wizard
  • Housecarl

Even though these classes are decent in combat, I don’t find them as useful as the others. Sellswords like Berenice can inflict damaging physical attacks and deal counterattacks, but I prefer similar classes like Warriors and Knights.

Soldiers are also similar to Sellswords, but they are also good for physical defense and can protect allies with their shields. I find that Fighters like Lex are okay in combat, but aren’t as good as the Lord or Hoplite classes. Then we have Wizards like Auch who can dish out powerful magick attacks. They’re practically the same as Witches, but the Witch class can also support allies, so Wizards aren’t my preferred magick class.

Finally, the Housecarl is a good choice for physical damage, and characters like Aubin can break gates and barriers. I find that the Warrior class has the same party leader ability and is a better fighter overall.

Hopefully, you agree with my ranking of the Unicorn Overlord classes and have found this useful in creating units and pairing up characters. Speaking of characters, these characters aren’t just good in battle, but they can be romance options for Alain!
