Best Horror Games on PlayStation Plus for Halloween 2023

Best Horror Games on PlayStation Plus for Halloween 2023

October is finally here! That means it’s the perfect time for scary games. We’ve already covered monthly games for October on PlayStation Plus; here’s a list of the best horror games to check out on the subscription service. We added multiplayer and single-player titles, including indie and AAA games of different styles.

Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight / Behaviour Interactive, 505 Games

Dead by Daylight is often labeled as one of the best asymmetrical horror games on the market. Players must take on the role of a Killer or a Survivor. A Killer must pick off four Survivors as they attempt to escape, while Survivors must work together to repair generators on a map. With over 15 maps, unlockable Perks, and unique characters, Dead by Daylight is an intense yet fun experience for horror fans.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard / Capcom

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a perfect choice for fans looking for a survival horror game. It marks the series’ shift to first person so players can experience the true horrors of the world up close and personal. As of writing, only the PS4 version of the game is included in PlayStation Plus.

The story follows Ethan Winters, who’s looking for his missing wife. After his search leads him to an eerie mansion in Louisiana, he finds himself at the mercy of the Baker family.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne / FromSoftware

Players up for a challenge should check out Bloodborne. It’s set in Yharnam, where the “beast disease” runs rampant and turns people into monsters. The player is thrust into a dark yet beautiful Victorian-inspired world and takes on the role of a Hunter to destroy the beasts and discover the area’s secrets.

Although Bloodborne is a good pick, I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint of heart. The game is known for having unforgiving combat and highly aggressive enemies.

Until Dawn

Until Dawn / Supermassive Games

An old-time favorite is Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn. It’s a 2015 interactive adventure featuring eight teenagers vacationing at a remote mountain retreat. Scary events start to unravel as the group realizes they’re in danger. Players must make wise choices quickly to ensure everyone survives this terrifying trip. Until Dawn is often praised for its unexpected twists, many endings, and perfectly-timed jumpscares.

Inside

Inside / Playdead

This popular indie 2D platformer puts players in the shoes of a faceless boy escaping an authoritarian dystopia where people are under mind control. The game’s environmental storytelling, haunting soundtrack, and stunning visuals earned it many rewards, such as Best Audio for an Indie Game in 2017 and Best Independent Game in 2016.

Inside is a snag for those without a PlayStation Plus, too. It’s only $4.99 on PS4. Players can get a bundle with Inside and Limbo, a similar title created by the same developers, for only $6.74.

Inscryption

Inscryption / Devolver Digital

Another indie game called Insrcyption finishes the list, and it’s very different from typical horror games. Devolver Digital’s take on the genre merges deckbuilding, psychological horror, and escape-room puzzles, creating an unforgettable experience for players. Figure out what Leshy is hiding in his cabin through a disturbing card game that involves self-mutilation.
