Mini Metro

Mini MetroMini Metro

A lot of things depend on logistics to work. Mini Metro uses this idea to make a fun, simple game about putting a city metro in the right order. Making sure the right trains appear at the right time and programming motions to meet certain goals are all parts of this job. Some puzzle mobile games rely too much on viewpoint changes or tricks, but Mini Metro doesn’t do either of those things.

Hidden Folks

Hidden FolksHidden Folks

Hidden Folks is a cool hidden object game that’s fun to play and look at. The art is handmade and has patterns made with a pen and ink in black and white. Like a Where’s Waldo book, players have to find a certain person that is hidden in each drawing. This isn’t easy because you’ll have to move and peel back things in each setting to find these people who are hidden.

Hidden Folks is very different from other hidden object games on the Play Store because it lets you interact with the characters a lot. The art style is also fascinating.

Mekorama

MekoramaMekorama

It’s clear that Mekorama was influenced by isometric puzzle platformers like Monument Valley, but that’s not a big deal when the games you copy are already good. You can expect a lot of humor and personality, just like in the games that inspired this one. The creator also made it easy to pay whatever you want to unlock the whole game, which is a nice touch.

Developers: Martin Magni, Ratalaika Games S.L.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita

Monument Valley

Monument ValleyMonument Valley

Monument Valley is a simple, beautiful puzzle game that offers a lot of different puzzles. It’s one of the best puzzle games ever made for mobile devices. Treating each problem like an optical illusion lets you change the space in surprising ways to find a way for your character, the princess, to cross. This is the game’s most memorable feature. Each puzzle is also a beautifully made little diorama with different levels and building details.

Threes!

ThreesThrees

Though simple, the ‘Threes!’ repeating number combination is horribly addictive, and as you combine, the game escalates in a really brilliant way. It’s hard to describe why Threes is so good, but it just has that elegant and addictive simplicity that some puzzle games hit on. We definitely recommend you see for yourself if you enjoy number puzzles.

Maze Machina

Maze MachinaMaze Machina

Premium mobile games aren’t making Tiny Touch Tales as much money as they used to, but we’re glad to see the creator still wants to use their great skills to make mobile games. Once again, Maze Machina shows how good Tiny Touch Tales is at what it does.

To sum up, this is a great take on the maze idea. It’s hard, has a good number of levels, and can be played again and again without feeling like a grind.

Powernode

PowernodePowernode

The graphics in Powernode remind us of the great Mini Metro. It’s a fun and difficult puzzle game where you have to connect power generators so they don’t disappear. Planning is very important because cables stay in place and there are more nodes that need care than power crystals. But as you finish off old nodes, new ones appear, adding more and more complicated problems to your already complicated power network.

Even though it has a few bugs, this is a great, well-thought-out puzzle game that’s perfect for anyone who wants a challenge that involves math and strategy.

Candy Crush Soda Saga

Candy Crush Soda SagaCandy Crush Soda Saga

There have been a lot of really famous free games in the App Store, but the first Candy Crush Saga (Free) changed everything about what it meant to be successful in the App Store. When Candy Crush came out on mobile, it became even more popular than it was on Facebook. I don’t think anyone at King could have guessed how popular it would become. Pop culture has embraced the game so much that it’s even mentioned in TV ads that have nothing to do with it. You can hardly go anywhere without seeing someone playing it.

King has been putting out other games to try to follow the success of Candy Crush. These games have all done well and would be crazy, life-changing hits for anyone else, but Candy Crush is the clear winner. Hey, why not just make another Candy Crush game? Of course, King did that.

Eloh

Eloh one of the Best Mobile Puzzle GamesEloh one of the Best Mobile Puzzle Games

The kinetic game ELOH is a cheap and cheerful puzzler that works especially well on phones. It’s bright, hard, and has a lot of great details. The main task is to put blocks in the right places so that balls bounce into the right holes. Some light beat can be heard in this, and as things get trickier, the blocks take on more creative shapes. For instance, some will move along a certain line.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page

Lost Words: Beyond the Page one of the Best Mobile Puzzle GamesLost Words: Beyond the Page one of the Best Mobile Puzzle Games

If you like platformers but like them best when they have puzzles, then Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a great game for you. This is a relaxing game where the letters in words are used as stages to get from one level to the next. Of course, these words tell a story that changes over time, which is fun, but the puzzle-based platforming is where the game really shines.

You’ll have to use your imagination to figure out how to use words to solve the 2D problems, just like in Baba is You. You can do this at your own pace.

Where Shadows Slumber

Where Shadows Slumber one of the Best Mobile Puzzle GamesWhere Shadows Slumber one of the Best Mobile Puzzle Games

This is a great choice for people who like both Monument Valley and Square Enix’s Go games. While it doesn’t have as many options or as many brains as those other games, it still does a great job of satisfying that craved experience. It’s very artistic to use light and dark to change the scene in front of you.

This is a maze-based puzzle game that is easy to control and has a fun loop of levels. Where Shadows Slumber is a great addition to our list of “best of” books because it is atmospheric and creative.

Path of Giants

Path of Giants one of the Best Mobile Puzzle GamesPath of Giants one of the Best Mobile Puzzle Games

A cool puzzle game where you take control of three characters, each with their own skills that will help you get through each stage. Of course, you’ll need to use these characters to figure out each stage’s puzzle. As you finish a stage, the difficulty will rise. It’s easy to play in short bursts, has great graphics, and is fun to play. This is the kind of game you should play when you have some free time.

The best part is that what you see is what you get because this is a premium version. Once you pay $4, you can play the whole game. It’s not bad at all.

Lara Croft Go

Lara Croft Go one of the Best Mobile Puzzle GamesLara Croft Go one of the Best Mobile Puzzle Games

Many a good series has had bad books in it that hurt its image. Especially the secondary slump, which is when it’s hard to remember what made the first one great without repeating yourself too much. Each game in the Go series has its own strengths and weaknesses, but Lara Croft Go is by far the best.

Hitman Go had a lot of weird tasks that counted downturns, but they were just a generic way to add time to the game without adding anything new. Deus Ex Go’s big plan for daily tasks and puzzles made by the community didn’t work out very well. But Lara Croft Go and its two add-ons were just the right amount of difficult, fun, and fast-paced. Its focused prize hunts will keep even the smartest people busy.
