Fillipino Boxer Manny Pacquiao seems to be teasing the launch of a new esports team, Team Pacquiao GG.
Yesterday, Pacquiao tweeted that he would be “revealing something special” on Dec. 4, with a tag for @TeamPacquiao_GG. The tagged account, which has apparently been created back in May 2020, posted their first Tweet to encourage people to tune into their Facebook page for a reveal tomorrow.
Further details on Pacquiao’s upcoming esports team have been limited. At the time or writing, we don’t know what competitive game the brand will be directing their attention to, or who is being recruited for the team. Of course, with the reveal set to happen tomorrow, it’s likely we’ll find out pretty soon.
Streamer and Cosplayer Een Mercado tweeted about the team on Nov. 30, with the hashtag “#teampacquiaogg.” Perhaps a potential member? Only time will tell.
The boxing legend has had no shortage of ventures over the years, from acting to a musical career. Pacquiao currently serves as the Senator of Philippines, having assumed office in 2016. Earlier this year, Pacquiao confirmed his candidacy in the 2022 Philippine presidential election leading to his retirement from professional boxing.
Pacquiao is no stranger to video games, though, featuring as a playable character in EA Sports’ Fight Night. Filipino game developer Ranida Games announced in 2021 that a mobile game based on Pacquiao’s boxing career, titled Fighting Pride: The Manny Pacquiao Saga, is also in the works.
As for his esports team, the reveal is set to take place tomorrow on Dec. 4, 2021 at 1 a.m. ET.
