Cavaliers 2023 Final Preseason Update

With the 2023 season starting in less than a week, and Cleveland making the final preseason rounds, there’s some news to cover. Here’s your final 2023 Cavaliers preseason update.

New city uniforms

Cleveland’s new city uniforms have been released on X (Twitter). The uniforms are wine in color with gold accents, and “The Land” across the chest in gold. They are similar to last seasons, but look a little closer to the 2016 Christmas uniforms.

The Cavs will debut their new-look uniforms against the Detroit Pistons on November 17. This is the first game of the new mid-season tournament. New tournament, new look. They will also wear them on November 28 against the Atlanta Hawks, January 29 against the Los Angeles Clippers, February 12 against the Philadelphia 76ers and March 10 against the Brooklyn Nets.

Mobley Extension

The Cavaliers have officially exercised Evan Mobley’s fourth year extension option. This means he will continue to play for the team through the 2024-25 season. While Mobley is expected to remain a Cavalier for (ideally) the remainder of her career, it is nice to see the Cavaliers making the effort to make sure Mobley knows he’s in the long term plan.

Mobley played in 79 games last season averaging 16.2 points, nine rebounds and 2.8 assists. This consistency will greatly benefit the Cavaliers, especially considering it’s coming from a player who finished on the All-NBA defense first team last season. He’s continuing to put on weight and improve his play, so it’s only fair to assume that he will only get better.

Cleveland’s final preseason game

The Cavaliers play their final preseason game of 2023 tomorrow night at 7:30 PM against the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis. The Pacers enter this game with a 1-2 record (beating the Atlanta Hawks 112-116 and losing to the Memphis Grizzlies 122-127 and the Houston Rockets 103-122) while the Cavs sit at 0-2 (losing to the Atlanta Hawks by one and the Orlando Magic by 3). In both losses the Cavs had a chance to tie or win but failed to capitalize. They did soundly defeat RaAnana Maccabi 89-120, but since RaAnana plays in the Israeli National League, and not the NBA, the win didn’t count towards Cleveland’s record. The Cavaliers played this game without their starters, and showed that the bench unit can both score and defend more than competently.

The Cavaliers will start their regular season next Wednesday October 25 at 7:30 PM in Brooklyn against the Nets. Jarrett Allen will be out with injury for the first handful of games to start the season, so the starting lineup will consist of Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Max Strus, Evan Mobley and a fifth player until Allen is able to return.
