Clash of Beasts Is a Tower Defense Game Starring Mythological Titans, Out Now on Mobile

There’s no shortage of tower defense games on mobile, but Ubisoft’s Clash of Beasts – developed by the company’s Abu Dhabi studio – looks like one of the standout examples of 2021, and it’s available on Google Play and the App Store right now.

In case you haven’t been following its pre-launch progress, the unusual strategy/tower defense hybrid sees you playing as a mercenary with the Beastmaster’s Spark – the coveted ability to command titanic beasts in battle. 

How do we know the Beastmaster’s Spark is coveted? Because Gideon Morvus, the villain of the piece, is attempting to obtain every single one in the sprawling game world of Veren, by abducting Beastmasters and capturing their Sparks through blood sacrifice. 

Alas, one of these unfortunate Beastmasters was your mother, Lara Molorn, setting you on the path of revenge. 

The gameplay loop in Clash of Beasts sees you summoning beasts with Soulstones, thrusting them into some of the most spectacular battles available on mobile, and using the rewards you gain to upgrade your titans and summon more. 

There are 65 different beasts to collect, some of which require multiple Soulstones to summon. Each beast has its own unique spells and attacks, and each one has one of five color-coded affinities and belongs to one of four classes, giving you countless tactical considerations to manage. 

Battles, meanwhile, take many forms, including PvP, PvE, Kingdom War, and Clan War. And they’re fully interactive, unlike in many mobile gacha games. To control your beasts, you lead them around with your finger.

Of course, there’s another side to Clash of Beasts. When you’re not attacking enemies’ strongholds you’re defending your own, but throwing up twelve different types of tower.

These have a variety of effects, from firing straightforward projectiles to debuffing poison effects. Plus, towers have affinities just like creatures, meaning you get particular effects by combining them in certain ways.

Clash of Beasts is an interesting idea, combining offensive and defensive gameplay, deep strategy, and huge, screen-filling beasts. What else could you ask for?
