Cleveland Browns Undrafted Free Agents: Part 1

The 2023 NFL Draft has come and gone, however, that does not mean teams are done signing potential prospects. This is a recap of the undrafted free agents that the Cleveland Browns signed this year.

Hassan Hall, RB Georgia Tech

Hassan Hall spent most of his college career at Louisville, where he racked up over 1,200 yards. He got most of his carries during his freshmen and sophomore years. However, his carries diminished during his last two years at Louisville. Hall transferred to Georgia Tech during his senior season, which seemed to have paid off for him.  From the film that is available, Hall has a lot of open field speed and is strong. He is great at breaking tackles and making guys miss.

The senior accumulated 521 yards rushing in 2022 and one touchdown. In addition, Hall had to earn his carries as he had to battle with two other running backs throughout the year and eventually won that battle. Not only can Hall run the ball, but he is also a great receiver out of the backfield. He had 165 yards receiving during his senior season. Hall may not get much playing time in 2023, with Nick Chubb being such a beast. However, Hall does have a great chance to make the team if he shows out during spring training.

Thomas Greaney, TE Albany

Greaney is a 6-foot-5 tight end and weighs 255 pounds. This guy is great in the red zone as he uses his size to pick the ball out of the air. He had nine touchdowns during his senior season at Albany. In addition, he had 693 receiving yards that year too.  The Albany tight end really shined against Baylor this past year. He burned the Bears’ defense with three catches for 57 yards.

 He finished the 2022 season with first team All CAA honors. Greaney may be one of those gems that everyone overlooked in the draft. Yes, he has tough competition with David Njoku and Harrison Bryant being in the same room. However, do not be surprised if this guy makes the team and gets some reps while the Browns are in the red zone this season.

Lonnie Phelps, EDGE Kansas

General manager Andrew Berry must be high on Lonnie Phelps. Berry offered Phelps a contract that guarantees him 250, 000 dollars and includes a 50,000-dollar signing bonus. Phelps played three years as a Redhawk at Miami of Ohio. During his sophomore year, he accumulated 30 total tackles with 13.5 of those being for a loss.  In addition, Phelps had 8.5 sacks.  Phelps decided to transfer to Kansas for what would be his last year in college football. The Jayhawks Edge rusher racked up 57 total tackles and seven sacks in 2022. It will be interesting to see how Phelps does at the next level.

Jeremiah Martin, EDGE, Washington

Jeremiah Martin started his college football career at Texas A&M but would see limited playing time while he was there. He would then transfer to the University of Washington in 2021, where he would find more time on the field. During his first season as a Husky, Martin, racked up 13 tackles and one sack. In 2022, Martin became a key player for the Washington defense. He accumulated 41 tackles and 8.5 sacks. The defensive end was a team captain and earned All-Pac 12 first-team honors. Martin is a good pickup for the Browns. He is quick and explosive and knows how to get to the quarterback
