College Football Playoff Bracketology September 24

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and defeated already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 24.

CFP Four

1. Florida State Seminoles (4-0)

Florida State notched the second big win of their season by beating Clemson on the road. That, and their win over LSU earlier in the year, help them get the top spot in the rankings again.

This week: vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (1-3)

2. Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0)

The Buckeyes went on the road and defeated Notre Dame in a close game. That win is one of the best wins of the season and catapults Ohio State all the way up into the top two, although they have plenty to work on in the coming weeks.

This week: BYE

3. Texas Longhorns (4-0)

Texas breezed past Baylor this week to move to 4-0. Their win on the road over Alabama looks a touch better after the Crimson Tide defeated Ole Miss this weekend.

This week: vs. Kansas Jayhawks (4-0)

4. Oregon Ducks (4-0)

Oregon didn’t just win the game against Colorado, they destroyed the Buffaloes. It was a big win and the Ducks also passed the eye test with their big win.

This week: at Stanford Cardinal (1-3)

First Four Out

5. Washington State Cougars (4-0)

A win over Oregon State moves Washington State up in the rankings. They also have a nice win over Wisconsin on their resume this season, so the Cougars are battle-tested.

This week: BYE

6. Duke Blue Devils (4-0)

Duke drops in these rankings because other teams now have better wins and their win against Clemson now looks worse after the Tigers lost to Florida State. They did defeat UConn in week 4 to stay undefeated.

This week: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (3-1)

7. Utah Utes (4-0)

The Utes have gone 4-0 all while their starting quarterback has been out. They have wins over Florida, Baylor and now a ranked UCLA team to help their resume and could be a threat to crash the CFP if Cam Rising is able to return soon.

This week: at Oregon State Beavers (3-1)

8. Penn State Nittany Lions (4-0)

Penn State won a ranked game over Iowa and didn’t have much trouble with the Hawkeyes. It was their best win of the season, but more big games are coming up.

This week: at Northwestern Wildcats (2-2)

Next Four Out

9. Missouri Tigers (4-0)

After getting a marquee win over Kansas State, Missouri followed up with getting a tough win over Memphis, who is now 3-1. The Tigers are outperforming expectations to stay in these rankings.

This week: at Vanderbilt Commodores (2-3)

10. Washington Huskies (4-0)

Washington won’t get too much credit for beating Cal this week, but they did get a decent road win over Michigan State last week. The Huskies also have a good win over Boise State earlier in the year. On top of that, they are really passing the eye test early in the season.

This week: at Arizona Wildcats (3-1)

11. Miami Hurricanes (4-0)

Miami had a cake-walk against Temple in week 4 to improve their record to 4-0. Their biggest win of the season was against Texas A&M, which looks pretty solid, but they have a long way to go if they want to stay in the rankings.

This week: BYE

12. Fresno State Bulldogs (4-0)

Fresno stays in the rankings as a result of winning a game against Kent State, but that won’t help them move up. They have wins over Arizona State and Purdue on the road to help their case. As of now, Fresno State looks like the best group of five team this season.

This week: at Nevada Wolf Pack (0-4)
