Creighton and host St. John’s will look to continue building late-season momentum when they meet in a Big East game at 6:30 p.m. ET Wednesday at Carnesecca Arena in New York.

Creighton (18-8/10-5 Big East/5-4 road) extended its winning streak to five games by rallying past Marquette 83-82 on Saturday. St. John’s (15-11/7-8 Big East/11-6 home) routed Butler 91-57 on Friday for its second straight victory.

St. John’s is a 4.5-point favorite in a game that will be broadcast on FS1 and has a 64.91% implied win probability as -185 choices on the moneyline.

Both teams have work to do if they are going to make the NCAA Tournament field. SBD’s latest March Madness bracket projection does not include either the Bluejays or Red Storm. Oddsmakers see Creighton as the better bet to make a run. The Bluejays are listed at +6500 odds to make the Final Four. St John’s is +10000.

Creighton Betting Outlook

Despite winning five straight games, Creighton 1-3-1 against the spread in that span. The Bluejays are 12-12-2 ATS overall this season and 6-3 on the road.

Sophomore center Ryan Kalkbrenner had 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Marquette. He helped Creighton finish the game on a 10-4 run to overcome a 78-73 deficit with 4:59 left.

Kalkbrenner as 8 of 9 from the field as Creighton shot 53.6% (30 of 56) and notched his third game of the season with at least 20 points. He is averaging 11.9 points and 7.3 rebounds and his 2.8 blocked shots a game rank second in the Big East and 13th nationally.

Over his last four games, Kalkbrenner is averaging 17.0 points.

Freshman guard Ryan Nembhard knocked down 4 of 6 from three-point range on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. He has season averages of 11.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

Nembhard is fifth in the conference in assists.

Senior forward Ryan Hawkins had an outstanding all-round performance as he registered 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. He is averaging 20.2 points during Creighton’s winning streak.

Freshman guard Tray Alexander added a season-high 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists and senior guard Alex O’Connell chipped in with 13 points and five assists.

O’Connell sustained an ankle injury late in the game and could sit out Wednesday. He is averaging 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Freshman forward Arthur Kaluma (knee) could miss his second straight game. He is providing 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds a game.

St. John’s Betting Outlook

St. John’s has been the winning side ATS in three straight games and five of its last six games. The Red Storm is 13-12-1 overall and 6-10-1 at home.

In the dismantling of Butler, St. John’s shot a smoking 61.4% (35 of 57) and knocked down half its 22 three-point attempts as Julian Champagnie scored 31 points. The junior wing also had seven rebounds, seven steals, three assists and four three-pointers.

It was the third 30-point game of 2021-22 for Champagnie. He is second in the Big East in scoring (19.2) and steals (2.0) while averaging 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Senior forward Aaron Wheeler was efficient in scoring 16 points, shooting 6 of 8 from the floor and 4 for 5 from beyond the arc. He has lifted his average to 10.1 by scoring in double figures in 13 of the last 14 games after doing so once in the first 11 games.

Over the last three games, Wheeler is averaging 17.8 points.

Sophomore guard Posh Alexander had his third double-double of the season while finishing with 13 points and 10 assists and making 5 of 6 field goal attempts. He is averaging 14.5 points, 5.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

Alexander leads the Big East in steals and is sixth nationally while also standing second in assists in the conference.

St. John’s held Butler to 34.5% (20 of 58) from the floor while outrebounding the Bulldogs 35-21.

Creighton vs St. John’s Prediction

Creighton has won the last three games in the series by an average margin of 19.6 points and hammered St. John’s 87-64 on Jan. 19 in Omaha.

O’Connell led the Bluejays with 28 points and seven rebounds, Kaluma had 20 points and Hawkins contributed 13 points. St. John’s got 17 points from Champagnie while Wheeler finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Creighton is on a winning streak but it’s hard to buck St. John’s, which is on an ATS roll and looking for revenge.
