CSGO Tournament Postponed Due To Russia’s Missile Attack on Ukraine

WePlay has made the decision to delay the beginning of its CS:GO tournament known as WePlay Academy League Season 6 (WAL S6), which had been scheduled to begin on the 10th of October or afterward.

This decision was made so that the company’s team in Ukraine can continue to operate in a secure environment.

The majority of WePlay’s crew is in Kyiv, Ukraine, thus the event organizer suspended its CSGO academy league for their safety after Russia fired missiles on the city for the first time in months.

The sixth season of the WePlay Academy League has been delayed because many missiles have been fired at Kyiv.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February; eight months later, the battle is still ongoing. Yesterday, a barrage of missiles attacked Kyiv as well as other cities in Ukraine, resulting in a huge number of civilian casualties and creating widespread destruction. Because of this, WePlay has no choice but to postpone the beginning of WAL Season 6 in order to prioritize the safety of its employees in Ukraine.

“We are forced to postpone the start of WAL Season 6. Our main value is our employee’s safety and we cannot explore them to additional risk. Further update on the tournament start will be announced later,” – WePlay Esports in a public statement.

The organizers further indicated that they had been planning for the sixth season of the academy league for weeks and that they were confident that nothing could stop them from kicking off the new season. Unfortunately, the missile attack forced them to delay the competition.

“Today our entire country woke up to a massive missile attack by the Russian Federation. Sirens and explosions are heard in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and a dozen other cities in Ukraine. Some areas have the electricity supply cut off. Dozens of dead and hundreds of wounded are already reported,” said WePlay.

The WePlay Academy League Season 16 will have a total prize pool of $100,000 USD, and there will be a total of 14 academy CS: GO teams playing in it throughout the course of the months of October and November.

Flames Ascent and MIBR Academy will be participating in this event in place of Young Gods and Eternal Fire Academy. It will consist of three distinct stages: the Group Stage, the Gauntlet Stage, and the Playoffs.
