Dota 2: How To Cope With Game Ruiners in 2022?

Game ruiners in Dota 2 causing you grief? Here’s our handy tips to cope!

It is Saturday night, and all you want to do is log into your Steam account, open Dota 2 and have a nice solo game before you go to sleep. The next thing you know, there is someone on your team who starts flaming you from the pick/ban phase and then ruins the game for all by feeding.

Every Dota 2 player has gone through this scenario at least a couple of times during their lifetime. Some of us experience it more often than others, which is one of the reasons why many people stopped playing the game. There are way too many players whose only purpose is to ruin your game and prevent you from gaining the rating you want.

Speaking of ruining your game, you could do a couple of things to deal with those people. We will try to include them in this article and suggest giving them a chance. After all, you should try to do everything in your power to win, and dealing with the runners is one of them.

Mute them

This is the first and easiest thing you can get. Most people who want to ruin the game for you will try to annoy you by flaming and/or doing all sorts of other things. Some of them use voice chat and even talk in their native language to make you feel even more uncomfortable.

To avoid some of the potential stress, simply use the mute option, and you won’t hear anything from the given player ever again. This will prevent you from tilting and will allow you to focus on your own game. Of course, you should also use the report option so that you can save yourself or other players in the future.

Speaking of focusing, this is the second thing you should pay attention to.

Focus on your own gameplay instead

If someone wants to ruin the game for you, one of the first things that this person will do is to try and distract you. Things like last hitting your creeps, pulling neutrals or even using abilities on you are just some of the possible options. Although they are annoying, you should try to ignore them and focus on your gameplay.

This definitely sounds easier said than done, but it will have a significant impact on your results. Focus on getting those last hits and/or gank, and you will have a chance to win. Don’t forget that runners often get bored if you ignore their actions, so they will most likely stop trolling or try to annoy someone else.

Sadly, the fact that someone will be next to you for a few minutes will have an effect on the game and will give the enemy team an advantage. It will definitely be harder to recover, but you have to try and do everything in your power to bounce back.

Try talking to them

Even though we usually do not recommend doing this, some people try to talk with the ruiners and convince them that there is no need to keep doing this. As you can imagine, these conversations are hard and usually won’t have any effect. In fact, it may encourage the person to feed even more and/or do other kinds of things.

However, if you think you have what it takes, feel free to try this method. We’ve seen it work a couple of times, but there are many cases where it has the opposite effect. That’s why you have to be careful.

Try to give the person what they want

Even though there are game ruiners who have fun by ruining the fun of others, most people who do this usually have a reason. In most cases, it is because someone else took their role or is not fulfilling their obligations. For example, carry, and mid players love feeding and destroying their items if they are getting pressured and no one helps them.

If that’s the case and you really want to win this game, try to help the person by doing what he asks for. For example, you can try to support him, buy wards, stack, and do all of the things you are supposed to do. This should positively affect the game and give your team a chance to win.

Things you shouldn’t do

After highlighting some of the potential actions that may help you, it is time to go over the things that you should not do. You need to avoid a couple of critical actions because they will almost always result in a loss. We’ve listed them as H3s below.

Do not start flaming

One of the first things that people do when someone is trying to ruin their Dota 2 game is to start flaming them. Whether this will be via chat or voice, people use all kinds of insults and hope that this will prevent the person from ruining. Needless to say, this is not true and usually has the opposite effect.

Besides the fact that you and that guy will start flaming each other, this will stimulate the player to continue to do what he does. In other words, he will feed more couriers, give free kills, destroy his items, and do various other things.

Don’t use abilities that help ruin the game

Have you ever heard of the term Tiny Airlines? This thing became popular a couple of years ago when people started using this hero in the Lowe Priority pool and tossing their allies to their enemies. Doing this allows them to secure free kills and gold, and it will trigger your team even more.

Tiny is probably the best example, but there are many other heroes that can do that. For example, some people use Timbersaw to destroy all trees so that enemies have better vision. The possibilities are endless, and you can become creative, but it is not the right thing to do. After all, this will cause even more chaos and will almost always result in a loss.
