ESL Challenger Melbourne 2023: DreamHack returns down under

DreamHack is back in town this weekend, returning to Melbourne for April 28-30. Six international and two domestic teams are fighting for a direct spot in ESL Pro League S18. Who will emerge victorious in Australia’s first big LAN in 2023?

  • Grayhound, Vertex represent Australia
  • Movistar Riders replace The Mongolz
  • CoL, BNE & GH are all qualified for BLAST Paris Major

This weekend will see DreamHack return to Melbourne and with it comes ESL Challenger for CS:GO fans. Six teams coming from various qualifiers and invites will join Grayhound and Vertex in battle for a direct slot into ESL Pro League S18.

In Group A, Complexity will be looking to prove that they are the dominant North American team in the event as Evil Geniuses Black is also in the same group. EU representative Ecstatic can potentially throw a spanner in the works seeing they qualified over fellow European squads such as Forze and Sprout, despite not being a household name in events like this.

Complexity and Grayhound are both off to Paris after this event so not only will it be an opportunity for some practice, it will be expected that these two squads make it through Group A.

Grayhound will face off against EG Black in their opening game, where they can hopefully build some momentum before taking on the rest of the group and trying to lock down the top seed.

Over in Group B, Bad News Eagles will be expected to prove why they get to start their Major run in the New Legends Stage as the predominantly Kosovan squad move from strength to strength in 2023.

The rest of the group has plenty of potential for an all-out bloodbath with Vertex, Rare Atom, and Movistar Riders all looking to scratch their name into a big trophy in 2023.

Vertex will match up with BNE first and if they can pull off an upset to kick their event off they could see themselves in the playoffs.
