Final Fantasy XV Android Game Fails To Inspire As Pre-Registration Launches

A glimpse of the global release of an upcoming Final Fantasy XV Android gacha game, Final Fantasy XV: War For Eos, has the gaming community somewhat underwhelmed.

It’s a strategy game set in the universe of Final Fantasy XV, with a new story. Some familiar characters from the game set out to rebuild Insomnia after the conflict with Niflheim.

Square Enix Is Not At The Wheel On This One

Square Enix is not the developer behind War For Eos. It’s instead in the hands of developer Machine Zone, Inc. Machine Zone developed Game of War – Fire Age, which has over fifty million downloads at the time of writing. So it has developed successful games in the past.

War For Eos released in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in ‘early access’ back in March 2022, and looks set to release on Android globally soon.

The game appears to be a hybrid of strategy and RPG combat, boasting that you can build your own kingdom and defend it from attack. That said, the Google Play listing also claims that “there are no rules in this game; all is done by magic.” We can’t be certain of much at this point, besides a few snippets of footage available from the developer.

Fans Seem Uninspired So Far

Reaction to the footage has been unenthusiastic so far, to say the least. A few reactions even debated whether it was fake footage, which doesn’t indicate a great response.

There is definitely a very generic flavor to the footage we’ve seen, with the same UI style we’ve seen in every generic mobile strategy we can count. These might be placeholders of course. Man, we hope they’re placeholders.

Some mobile-focused Final Fantasy projects have amassed a decent following. Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a good example. However, it’s quite clear that you cannot just slap a well-known name on something and guarantee a skeptical gaming public will be excited.

Machine Zone might pull it back and bring a game that fans of the original can enjoy, but with a series famous for being deep and huge, Final Fantasy XV Android offerings have a lot to live up to.
