Developer Just Purkey Games has revealed an upcoming open-world horror game, The Axis Unseen. It’s a self-proclaimed “heavy metal horror game,” created by an ex-Bethesda employee, Nate Purkeypile, who has previously worked on Skyrim, Fallout, and Starfield.
The Axis Unseen is a horror action game all about ancient folklore. Players will have to hunt nightmarish creatures scattered across a mysterious and unfamiliar open-world environment. By collecting the monsters’ powers and discovering elemental arrows you’ll grow stronger and be able to take on bigger threats.
Backing the gameplay is a primitive metal soundtrack composed by Clifford Meyer. This soundtrack offers a unique blend of heavy metal music and primitive instruments. Meyer has previously been involved in multiple heavy metal bands such as ISIS and Red Sparowes.
The theme of Just Purkey Games’ upcoming game is predator versus prey, with your role constantly changing depending on the match-up, and your main weapon is your trusty bow. While the bo can be upgraded to deal more damage, its real power comes from its ammunition. Different arrow types offer various perks and effects that include dealing burn damage, controlling the wind, or slowing down time. The type of arrow you use can be the difference maker in certain encounters.

Alongside the reveal, Just Purkey Games added a FAQ section to Steam to answer some important questions. Here, it is revealed that a release date hasn’t been chosen and won’t be until Purkeypile is ready. In addition, Purkeypile also confirms that The Axis Unseen won’t have multiplayer or support VR.
Neither the omission of multiplayer nor VR support is particularly surprising. This is already an ambitious project for one man to design, with it having a map “5x the size of Skyrim.” Adding features like multiplayer would be nice, but it’s understandable why it isn’t supported.
