Sweden will be looking to seal their top spot in Group B of the EUFA World Cup qualifiers when they visit Adjarabet Arena in Batumi to face an unpredictable Georgia on Thursday evening with kickoff at 20:00.
Sweden have put themselves in a great position to win the group as they lead the group with two points above the second-placed Spain who they meet in the final qualifying fixture in a potential winner-takes all encounter in Seville.
The Swedes have been solid in this World Cup qualifying campaign having only lost one of their six qualifying matches so far while winning all the other five the process. They head into the match in a good form having just lost one of their last five matches across all competitions and are coming off back-to-back qualifying wins over Kosovo and Greece with an aggregate of 5-0.
Therefore, Jan Anderson’s side will be looking to extend their winning streak as they aim at cementing their top finish which will guarantee an automatic qualification to Qatar next year.
Meanwhile Georgia were eliminated a long time ago with the side recording a poor qualifying campaign as they have only managed to claim one win and one draw while suffering five defeats in their seven matches played so far.
Willy Sagnol’s side managed to bounce back from their five-match losing streak across all competitions with a 2-1 win over Kosovo in their last qualifying match. The win was saw them leapfrog Kosovo to the fourth spot but only on a goal difference. The win also as mentioned earlier was their first World Cup qualifying win and probably their last as they face Sweden a side that is much more in need of a win than they are.
