Halo Infinite – FOBs, Valor, Collectibles, and More Detailed; New Gameplay Released

halo infinite closed beta

343 Industries’ Halo Infinite is less than a month away and while the developer gave us an extended look at the campaign in a recent showcase, even more gameplay has become available via IGN and Game Informer. These showcase the opening level and campaign along with providing details on how the open world works. Check them out below.

In its preview, IGN notes that despite appearing to be “open world”, Halo Infinite is more about providing large sandboxes for players. Zeta Halo is essentially broken into chunks that are like their own islands – you just can’t jump over when you feel like it. Eventually, these chunks can be connected with bridges, opening up more of the Ring to explore.

One of the major open world activities is Forward Operating Bases which previously belonged to the UNSC and are now claimed by the Banished. Clearing them out will place them back in UNSC control, open a fast travel point and provide Valor. Valor provides access to different weapons, vehicles (including the Scorpion Tank) and Marines. While the equipment provided will give you an edge in missions, it seems that liberating bases and earning Valor is optional. While playing, The Weapon – Chief’s new AI partner – will note objectives, camps and UNSC distress calls.

Then you have the larger Banished facilities which must be cleared by destroying power sources. You’ll also face of against special Banished targets which provide a unique version of their weapon that can be equipped later. There are also secret rooms in certain mountainsides guarded by Banished which grant unique weapons like the Backdraft Cindershot. Collectibles like UNSC audio logs and armor for multiplayer, along with Skulls, can also be collected and there’s a helpful scanner (accessed by pressing up on the D-Pad) that helps.

Halo Infinite is out on December 8th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
