If you’re in your own Free Company, there’s some ranking stuff you need to deal with as well. But that’s beyond the scope of this particular MMO guide.

To change Grand Companies in FFXIV, you obviously already have to be in one. To prevent abuse of the mechanics of the game, there’s a requirement to reach the rank of Second Lieutenant within your current GC. That’s not too hard to do, here’s what to know. The basic premise is that you need to spend a certain number of Grand Company Max Seals and sometimes complete certain quests. Here are all the ranks and what’s needed to unlock them.

  • Private Third Class (10,000 Max Seals): Starting rank
  • Private Second Class (15,000 Max Seals): 2,000 Seals
  • Private First Class (20,000 Max Seals): 3,000 Seals
  • Corporal (25,000 Max Seals): 4,000 Seals
  • Sergeant Third Class (30,000 Max Seals): 5,000 Seals, Complete Grand Company Hunting Log Rank 1
  • Sergeant Second Class (35,000 Max Seals): 6,000 Seals
  • Sergeant First Class (40,000 Max Seals): 7,000 Seals
  • Chief Sergeant (45,000 Max Seals): 8,000 Seals, Complete “Shadows Uncast” quest
  • Second Lieutenant (50,000 Max Seals): 9,000 Seals, Complete Grand Company Hunting Log Rank 2 and “Gilding the Bilious” quest
  • First Lieutenant (80,000 Max Seals): Complete “Flagged Mission: Crystal Recovery” from Adventurer Squadrons
  • Captain (90,000 Max Seals): Complete 5 Command Missions, then complete “Flagged Mission: Sapper Strike”

To change Grand Companies in FFXIV, you’ll need to then talk to the Personnel Officer. You need to go over to them and find the Officer at the Grand Company you want to switch to; you can’t do it from your GC. Once you speak to them, you can finally make the switch.

Go hit them up and select “Apply for a promotion”. The Personnel Officers are in each Grand Company Headquarters within each city.

  • Storm Personnel Officer – Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 13.1, Y: 12.7)
  • Flame Personnel Officer – Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X: 8.3, Y: 9.0)
  • Serpent Personnel Officer – New Gridania (X: 9.8, Y: 11.0)

You get one free swap to a different group, so don’t worry about being a new player and losing a ton of in-game cash. After the one free Grand Company change as part of the MSQ tutorial. after that, it costs money. You do need to pay 50,000 Gil after the first time. Players must also wait 15 days between each transfer.

Do you want to switch your change Grand Company in Final Fantasy XIV?

Changing GCs can introduce some issues, so, let’s talk about that.

Some players might be concerned with the loss of ranks, but you don’t need to worry too much about that. You can also max out the rank for all Grand Companies because the rank is kept when you switch back. The ranks do have a benefit, as you can stack Seals for all of them as well. maximize the number of seals you can carry because all of the ranks and Seals you have essentially stay in your old GC. The biggest downside is that you have to start over with Rank 1 and no Seals.
