An extremely viable playstyle in The Finals is playing Heavy and using the Mesh Shield and Dome Shield. Since so many people seem to be playing in this way that can be challenging to deal with, here is your guide to countering Shields in The Finals.

Best ways to counter Mesh and Dome Shield in The Finals

There’s only one way to counter Shields in The Finals and that is with Glitch Grenades and Glitch Traps. Sure, you can counter Shields by playing Heavy and using your own Dome and Mesh Shields and a melee weapon or shotgun, but the true best way to counter Shields is Glitch Gadgets.

The reason Glitch Gadgets are the best counter to Shields is Glitch Gadgets temporarily disable their targets’ usage of Gadgets and Specialization, their HUD is disrupted, and it breaks enemy Gadgets. This means that Glitch Grenades and Traps destroy deployed Dome Shields and temporarily block players from using their Mesh Shields.

Glitch Grenades are available to the Light class and Glitch Traps are available to the Medium class. I like the Glitch Grenade better, but the Glitch Trap is great for preventing Heavys from using their Dome and Mesh Shields on a Cashout.

I love playing Light and outsmarting Heavy players, and the Glitch Grenade is great at that. You get two Glitch Grenades which is great if you wanna chuck two to make sure you deal with the Shields or save one for another squad. As I mentioned, the Glitch Trap works best for defense — place it right on a Cashout and the Heavy trying to place their Dome will be negated.

Using the Glitch Grenade is great in any instance but works best against Shields. It takes a bit to get used to it, but once you master the Glitch Grenade, you won’t need to worry about enemy Shields again. My advice is to remember that Glitch Grenades bounce off of Dome Shields, so throw it at the feet of the Dome Shield so it doesn’t accidentally bounce away and not hit your target.
