How to get Ubasam wood in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

In Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, you will soon enough come across the need to get Ubasam wood, mostly for the First Age Pickaxe. Before you go searching high and low for some in the Mines of Moria, just know that you won’t find any there.

Ubasam Wood is found nearby, however. Here is how to find Ubasam wood in Return to Moria.

Getting Ubasam wood in Return to Moria

Ubasam wood is needed early in your adventure in the Mines of Moria, but you won’t find any there. In fact, this wood doesn’t even come from any trees, so even when you are in the right location, you still may find it difficult to find.

In Return to Moria, Ubasam wood is found rather plentifully in the Lower Deeps, which is the next area from the starting one in the Western Halls. Once you’re down there, you must find the very strange fungal flora. They will take the form of flowers and very bulbous trees. Hacking these down with your weapon or pickaxe will result in wood and a little Ubasam wood.

You will find these plants and trees everywhere. You will gain some new recipes after collecting your first Ubasam wood, too, so make sure to collect a lot! I have found it more efficient to quickly hack down loads of the smaller plants than chop down the trees.

How to get to the Lower Deeps in Return to Moria

Getting to the Lower Deeps requires some things from you. You should fully explore the Mines of Moria, as you’ll need a lot of materials and to find a couple locations.

The entrance to the Lower Deeps is named the Crystal Descent, but to traverse down it you need to fix the mechanism, which requires 15 Black Diamonds, lots of Elven Wood, and lots of Natural Fibre.

To get the Black Diamonds necessary, you must locate the Orc Town. You’ll know once you’ve seen it, trust me. Opening the Orc Chests and defeating the boss of the Orc Town will net you with a lot of Black Diamonds, enough to fix the mechanism.

Make sure you’re fully in a set of Tier 2 armour and have a couple Tier 2 weapons. If you don’t, find and rebuild all the statues to earn the recipes for each of them.
