How to open the Sluice Gate Vault in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate has an almost uncountable amount of different paths and routes you can take. Many players will have completely different experiences and interactions than others, finding new and previously unexplored paths to take. This is the real beauty of the game. However, the Sewers under the Lower City are definitely somewhere you should be looking to get to. There is some great loot, interactions, and puzzles, such as opening the Sluice Gate, to solve in this area of Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to open the Sluice Gate Vault in Baldur’s Gate 3

Looking at the sluice gate, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious way to get through. It is the gateway into the Baldur’s Gate sewer pipe and the only way in. However, reading the technician’s note pasted on the far side of the Sluice Gate reveals the clue. You must get the water level and temperature at the perfect point. There isn’t much indication of what that is or how to manipulate it though.

Water level

The first thing to address in Baldur’s Gate is the Sluice gate water level. Head to the valve control on the left and interact with it. Pay attention to the top of your screen, where you will notice a counter for the water level. Once it reaches the ‘perfect level’, interact with the valve again to stabilize it.

Sluice gate temperature

The furthest valve controls the water temperature. Interact with this and, again, pay attention to the rising temperature at the top of your screen. Once it reaches the ‘perfect temperature,’ interact with the valve again. This will stabilize the temperature of the Sluice gate. The Baldur’s Gate 3 puzzle is now solved, and the Sluice Gate will open for you.

From here, you can make your way into the disgusting, stinky sewers for all the equally disgusting loot that awaits. Make sure you wash your hands before you eat anything.
