The classic crime-action franchise, Grand Theft Auto, is getting a major re-release this week. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Definitive Edition will be a full remaster of the classic game. Live out the lives of Carl Johnson and the rest of the Grove St. crew. Can you take over Los Santos with such a meager beginning? Find out in this new remaster.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Definitive Edition brings back the missions and storylines of the original game, and you’re tasked with helping rebuild the crumbling street gang. Gang warfare becomes a vital part of the experience in the game, as a result. Carl and co. must fight off rival gangs and take over their territory. This process has some very specific steps, here’s how to take over territories in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

How to take over territories in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

When you reach a certain point in the game, the gang war system will be enabled. When you open up the map, you will notice that the map has been colored in different shades. Green represents the areas of Los Santos controlled by Carl and his crew. You need to spread your influence by forcibly taking over other neighborhoods.

To start the gang war for a given neighborhood, find small groups of gang members colored as the current controllers of the area. You need to kill three rival gang members in rapid succession to start a war. This will spawn three increasingly aggressive waves of enemies. Completing the three waves will gain your faction control of the hood.

When you try to take over territories in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you will face three escalating waves. The first will be a small group with mostly melee weapons. The next wave will be short-range weapons like SMGs, and in larger numbers. The final wave is much larger and carries rifles and shotguns pretty deep.

Make sure to bring multiple weapon types, and plenty of ammo, to these fights. Make it a point to grab some armor as well before you start a gang war. Taking a new territory can require a lot of planning, so try to plan out your assaults. Doing things like having sniper rifles to engage from afar can help. It’s a great idea to use cover too.

After taking over territory, while the rival gangs are still a force, they will periodically attempt to take territory back from Grove Street Families. When territory is attacked by an enemy gang, the area flashes red on the map, and an icon will flash on the in-game radar. Carl will also receive a pop-up warning of the attack.
