Inspired by Indonesian folklore and a bit of urban legend, Dreadout 2 is a third person supernatural horror experience that has you stepping into the shoes of a high-school student who is able to not just sense, but also see, ghosts.
Available to purchase and download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S right now, with a PS4 and PS5 drop occurring on the 20th July, Dreadout 2 has been put together by the team at Digital Happiness, picked up and pushed to the world by those at Digerati.
Digital Happiness are an Indonesian developer and are so well placed to be able to bring the old stories of their land to the masses. And what they’ve created certainly looks to be appealing.
It focuses on Linda Meilinda, a young student who is able to sense and see ghosts. Falling into her shoes, you’ll need to go about hunting down and then ultimately banishing the spirits that pop up, utilising a series of weapons in the process.
You’ll also get to use Linda’s smartphone camera, all as she goes about a bit of exploration and side-quest completion. Why? Well, her home town will pretty much cease to exist if you don’t.
Running on chills and providing more than a little terror or two, hopes are high for Dreadout 2. We’ll be running full review very shortly, letting you know how it plays on Xbox Series X|S. In the meantime, the key features you’ll need to concern yourself with include:
- Banish them all! Hunt and defeat intangible ghosts with Linda’s smartphone camera, or use melee weapons and projectiles against physical ghosts
- A world of dread: Explore Linda’s hometown and beyond, talk to residents (alive and dead!), complete side-quests, and delve deeper into DreadOut lore
- Discover ghosts and urban legends: Search out spirits and uncover local myths to complete the Ghostpedia app on Linda’s smartphone
- Terrifying boss spirits: Keep your nerve as you battle the supernatural realm’s most hostile ghosts, including the chilling Kuntilanak, and horrifying Gore Surgeon
Dreadout 2 is on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Fully optimised for the next-gen, the £16.74 price seems more than reasonable. Expect to see this one pop up on the PlayStation Store come 20th July.
