Aubrey Plaza turns to a life of crime when faced with massive student debt in Emily the Criminal.

Written and directed by John Patton Ford, the film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and is now heading to cinemas in August, with an intense new trailer dropping Wednesday.

Plaza stars as the eponymous protagonist, whose futile attempts to get a job in LA to pay off her student loans aren’t easy thanks to her minor criminal record. So, she actually turns to crime, starting small by buying stuff with stolen credit cards supplied by middleman Youcef (Theo Rossi). It’s all a bit too easy though, and she quickly finds herself looking for bigger, and much more dangerous fish to fry.

Emily the Criminal hits theaters Aug. 12.
