Kentucky Betting Outlook

Kentucky has been less than a breakeven proposition against the spread this season, going 12-13 overall and 3-5 on the road.

Junior forward Oscar Tshiebwe continued to make his case for national Player of the Year against Florida with 27 points, 19 rebounds and three steals. It was 18th double-double this season and 11th in a row as well as his eighth game with 20 or more points.

Tshiebwe is averaging 16.4 points, 15.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.4 blocks a game while shooting 60.2% from the field. He leads the nation in rebounding and the SEC in field goal percentage.

All this from a player who averaged 8.5 points in 10 games last season before leaving West Virginia’s program.

The Wildcats are likely to be without their second leading scorer after freshman guard TyTy Washington sustained a lower leg injury with 12:51 left Saturday and did not return. He is fifth in the conference with a 47.7 field goal percentage while averaging 12.8 points, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds.

Senior guard Kellan Grady made four three-point field goals and scored 15 points against Florida. It was the seventh straight double-figure scoring game for the Davidson transfer, who improved his season average to 12.1.

Senior guard Davion Mintz contributed 11 points as Kentucky outrebounded Florida 41-25 and had just five turnovers.

The Wildcats led 33-28 at halftime then scored 13 of the first 15 points in the second half to take a commanding 46-30 advantage.

Junior guard Sahvir Wheeler, a transfer from Georgia, leads the SEC with 7.2 assists and junior forward Keion Brooks Jr. is averaging 11.2 points.

Reserve junior forward Jacob Toppin is also expected to sit out with a sprained ankle. He is scoring 5.9 points and grabbing 3.1 rebounds a game.

Tennessee Betting Outlook

The Tennessee betting public that’s been backing the Vols has turned a profit; Tennessee is 14-10 ATS on the season, including 7-6 in Knoxville.

Freshman guard Zakai Ziegler came off the bench to spark the Volunteers against Vanderbilt as he had 16 points and five assists. It was his sixth straight game with double-figure scoring and he is averaging 13.7 points in that stretch.

Junior guard Josiah-Jordan James finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. James shot just 2 of 14 from the field and 1 of 7 from distance but was 9 for 10 on free throws.

Senior forward John Fulkerson chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists while junior guard Santiago Vescovi had 10 points.

Vescovi leads the team in scoring with a 13.6 average to go with 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals a game. He has scored in double figures in 13 of his last 14 games.

Freshman guard Kennedy Chandler’s 2.3 steals a game are second in the conference and 12th in the nation. He is also averaging 13.1 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds.

Tennessee shot just 36.7% (22 of 60) against Vanderbilt. The Volunteers, though, held a 15-4 offensive rebounding edge and a 17-3 advantage in second-chance points.

Kentucky vs Tennessee Prediction

Kentucky beat Tennessee 107-79 on Jan. 15 at home as Washington had 28 points, five assists and three steals while Wheeler added 21 points and eight assists and Grady scored 16 points. Tennessee got 20 points from Vescovi and 17 from Chandler.

The teams have split their last 18 meetings.

This is an interesting matchup as Kentucky is fourth in the nation in Ken Pom’s adjusted offensive efficiency with 119.2 points per 100 possessions and Tennessee is sixth defensively at 87.9. However, even without Washington, the Wildcats are the choice with all those weapons.
