LCS Summer 2022 Playoffs: Team Liquid vs FlyQuest Series Recap

The first series of the LCS Summer 2022 Playoffs was between Team Liquid and FlyQuest, with TLcoming out ahead in the clash.

TL came into the split hoping to lift the trophy after falling short in the Spring Semis. The star-studded squad was the focus of fans’ criticism after their performance did not meet expectations in the Summer either. FLY, on the other hand, had a surprisingly good Summer, with their mid laner Loïc ‘toucouille’ Dubois leading the way.

Still, TL finished the league in third while being the best early-game team in LCS. Coming into the series, they were heavily favored against FLY, who lost both their regular split games against TL. The LCS All-Pro Teams were also announced this week, with both Bjergsen and CoreJJ ranked above their FLY counterpart, which was a decision the fans online did not really agree with. With all of these considered, this was the perfect series to start the Playoffs.

Team Liquid vs FlyQuest Game 1

TL’s early game strategy was the patented “gank for Bjergsen” tactic. It worked out well for them as they got the first blood, but Philip answered for FLY with a solo kill up in the top lane. Some kills were traded during the early game, but TL had a 1.5k gold lead due to the plates they took. The mid and late game was mostly controlled by FLY, behind a great Aatrox performance from Philip. They got the Cloud Soul, Baron and the Elder, on top of a 7.5k gold lead.

TL’s unwillingness to contest objectives gave FLY the opportunity to take another Baron. Despite good clear from Sivir, FLY was able to siege bot lane once again. And after a great engage they found one last team fight and closed out the first game of the series with a quadra kill from Johnsun.

Team Liquid vs FlyQuest Game 2

The second game of the Bo5 was also bloody in the early game. Unfortunately for FLY, kills and objectives were in the favor of TL, and Hans on Draven got early cash-outs which put TL 6.5k in the lead at the 14th minute. TL looked a lot more aggressive moving around the map and controlling objectives compared to Game 1. Hans Sama was at three items at 20 and it felt like the game was already over.

With the gold lead well over 10k, FLY could not challenge anything on the map as TL took the soul, Baron and their inhibitors one by one. TL did not wait around for their Baron to end and pushed to finish the game in a very dominant fashion.

Team Liquid vs FlyQuest Game 3

For Game 3, FLY chose the Blue Side hoping for an edge in the draft but TL answered with Seraphine/Swain picks.

Second game in a row, TL found the first blood in the bot lane and they secured the two early objectives. FLY at least was able to get some kills back at Herald to keep the gold close. Similar to Game 2, Philip had a rough time in the side lane with Santorin hunting him down constantly which TL turned into gold and advantage leads. FLY tried to fight TL around big objectives but they couldn’t get through the healing and shielding of the enemy comp as only toucouille seemed to be doing any meaningful damage.

With their 6k gold advantage, TL took the Baron and the Mountain Soul. They once again started their siege in the bot lane and they weren’t afraid to dive the towers. FLY could not defend the push and once again we were met with a convincing TL victory.

Team Liquid vs FlyQuest Game 4

In the must-win Game 4 for them, FLY threw a curveball and went with a Vayne pick for Johnsun.

In the early game, TL was the team looking for plays. They got the first blood with a three-man top side dive, and after the Herald fight went disastrous for FLY they put themselves 3k gold ahead in their series point. There weren’t too many kills in the game, but TL did not need kills to increase their lead as their macro was once again way better than FLY. The game state became worse for FLY when they tried to contest vision in their jungle for the soul point. TL aced them without losing much as Bjergsen on Ahri hit charm after charm. Just a minute later FLY got aced at the Baron and with the top inhib tower very low TL just ended the game.
