Having been created by Carlo Collodi way back in the late 1800s, the tale of Pinocchio is one that has been transferred from book to film, to stage show, television and more. But it’s not ever really found a place in the gaming scene. Until now as Neowiz and Round8 Studio look to deliver a darkly baroque tale to Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, with Lies of P.

You would have heard of Round8 Studio previously for it is they who created the rather decent Bless Unleashed. Lies of P will be their second studio title, but this one promises to be something altogether different.

Lies of P will play out as an action RPG, one that just so happens to have Souls-like elements. It’ll release on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, utilising the power of those consoles and PCs along with that of Unreal Engine 4 to bring to life the classic Collodi tale in a way that has never previously been realised.

As you’d expect to hear, Lies of P tells the story of Pinocchio like you’ve never seen it before and as Pinocchio himself, you must navigate through a dark Belle Epoque world where all of humanity is lost. The once beautiful city of Krat has become a living hell, and it will be up to you to find the famed Mr. Geppetto to unravel the mystery of what happened to both yourself and the world around you.

“We’ve been toying with the idea of retelling Pinocchio’s tale in our own way for some time. Lies of P is the culmination of our dreams and our nightmares. It’s definitely a version of this classic story that you’ve never seen before,” said Jiwon Choi, the director of development for Lies of P. “To us, Pinocchio has always been a grimly dark tale of the lies we tell to get by in a world that’s not always black and white. We can’t wait to show you more of the game in the coming months.”

The big details are still thin on the ground, but as the puppet mechanoid Pinocchio, you will wind your way through the streets of a ruined city, crafting weapons from the materials you find in the world, and interacting with the remaining few who manage to survive in this pre-industrial hellscape. The problem is, the more you lie – and hell, you’re Pinocchio so you’re bound to lie – the more human you become, with all the advantages and disadvantages that it entails.

Lies of P should all come together to deliver a richly detailed crafting system, profound narrative choices, and deeply customizable character progression, rounding out the RPG features.

Full gameplay details, character reveals, and much more will be provided from the Neowiz and Round8 teams as the weeks and months progress. For now we highly advise you check out the trailer below, and if you’re looking to play on PC, the Steam page is up, ready and prepared for Wishlisting.

Let us know in the comments if Lies of P is one you’ll be keeping an eye on.
