Luke Wypler 2023 NFL Draft Profile

The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Luke Wypler 2023 NFL Draft Profile.

Luke Wypler Background

Position: Offensive Guard/Center

School: Ohio State

Size: 6-foot-3, 303 pounds

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

2022 Stats: Third Team All-Big Ten (Media)

Wypler only spent a short time on the field for Ohio State, but played well. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a four-star prospect out of New Jersey, Wypler joined Ohio State in the class of 2020. He redshirted his first season on campus, but did play in one game. In his redshirt freshman season, he started 13 games and was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. His play helped the Buckeyes go 11-2 and win the Rose Bowl. He returned for the 2022 season and was named Third Team All-Big Ten by the media. He led Ohio State to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Following the College Football Playoff appearance, he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.

Luke Wypler Strengths

Wypler is a good athlete for the interior of the offensive line. He shows good quickness to get his rep started off right. Wypler also sustains that quickness to get to the second level and make blocks. He has the ability to play well in space at the next level.

He makes the calls at the line of scrimmage for protection. Wypler shows good football IQ and leadership in doing so. He understands defenses and can recognize where pressure is coming from. His NFL team won’t have to worry about too much of a learning curve for him.

His game is best suited for zone blocking, because he is a good athlete and can play on the move. He has shown proficiency as a zone blocker at the collegiate level and should be ready to play early in his career in a zone scheme.

Luke Wypler Weaknesses

Wypler doesn’t have great size. He stands 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds. Adding more weight to his frame will help, as he struggles to anchor. He can be overpowered by power rushers and can sometimes struggle to clear holes completely open in the running game. In addition to his size, Wypler has shorter arms for an offensive lineman, which makes it harder for him to sustain blocks.

As mentioned, Wypler is best suited for a zone scheme. WIth his lack of power being a factor, Wypler likely will not fit in with a team utilizing man-blocking. This will limit the number of teams who are interested in drafting him.

Right now, Wypler is a more advanced pass blocker than run blocker. Adding strength will help, but he can sometimes have troubles sustaining blocks in the run game and clearing holes. He could see the field early because of his pass blocking, but needs some extra work on his run blocking before being ready to play.
