‘Mirrored Souls’ And Today’s Other New Releases, Plus The Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 2nd, 2023. It’s another Wednesday, and these are usually the quietest days of most weeks. Today is no different, with only a few new releases to check out. At least they all look okay-ish? There’s a bit of news, too. After we go over all of that, we head into the lists of new sales and expiring discounts. It’s a good day to buy Chrono Cross, if you haven’t already. Let’s get to today’s modest goodies!

News

Rayman is Back in the Upcoming DLC for ‘Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope’

While the game apparently isn’t selling as well as its predecessor, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is certainly worth your time and money. The base game is excellent, and the DLC has been fine. The third batch of DLC has finally been dated, and will arrive on August 30th. Titled Rayman in the Phantom Show, it brings back the one-time Ubisoft mascot for one more adventure. Rayman, Rabbid Peach, and Rabbid Mario will have to take down Phantom and his bizarre TV station. Rayman’s got a full array of moves that should mix things up nicely. If you already have the Gold Edition, you’re all set. Otherwise you’ll need the Season Pass DLC to get this when it hits at the end of this month.

New Releases

Mirrored Souls ($14.99)

This is one of those games where you control two characters at the same time. They move in mirrored fashion, as the title indicates. The trick is to get them both to the exit of each area while dealing with all of the hazards and gimmicks that get in their way. The game also tells a story as you go along, so that’s something. It has a nice look and I think there is a lot of room for great puzzles with this kind of set-up, so we’ll have to see if this one can reach its full potential.

Moolii’s Dreamland ($16.50)

While I’m not sure about the price, I could see this game finding some fans. It’s a side-scrolling shooter with a lot of character, and it’s one of those roguelite takes on the genre where you start off super weak and need to grind like bonkers to have a chance at going the distance. Maybe you’re tired of space ships? Personally I would go and grab a couple of Arcade Archives shooters at this price, but that’s just my taste.

The Red Exile – Survival Horror ($4.99)

Another one of those procedurally generated horror games where you explore a space and try to complete a task while being stalked by a killer. I’ve seen a few of these before, more or less around the same price point. But this one is red, so maybe that’s a feature you’re after.

There are a number of games from PQube in the list today, and I can at least say that I enjoyed Labyrinth of Zangetsu and Maglam Lord well enough when I played them. As mentioned up at the top, Chrono Cross is on sale today. A new low price, even. The less desirable Wonder Boy Collection has been discounted, but I wouldn’t buy it with that other one around. Indeed, you can still grab that one at a discount if you buy fast. Check those lists as always.
