Patrick Paul 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Patrick Paul 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Patrick Paul Background

Position: Offensive Tackle

School: Houston

Size: 6-foot-7, 315 pounds

Class: Redshirt Junior

2023 stats: All-Big 12 First Team

Paul earned plenty of experience during his time at the University of Houston. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a three-star prospect in the class of 2019, Paul decided to stay in the city of Houston to play for the Cougars. In 2019, he started three games, but redshirted. For the 2020 season, he started two games before missing the rest of the season with an ankle injury. In 2021, he was able to start the whole season and made First Team All-American Conference. His play helped the Cougars go 12-2. Paul returned to the starting lineup in 2022 and made First Team All-American Conference again. The Cougars had another solid season with eight wins. In 2023, Paul was named First Team All-Big 12 in his first year in the conference. Unfortunately, the Cougars were only able to win four games.

Following the season, the experienced Paul decided to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.

Patrick Paul Strengths

Paul has solid size for an NFL offensive lineman. He is 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds. His frame looks like it could be filled out more, especially in his lower half. With his size comes good length, which often times gives him an edge on defenders when trying to sustain his blocks.

His strength is an asset that teams will like, especially if they can add to it while he fills out his frame. He can clear space in the running game and finishes plays well. As a pass protector, he has good anchor strength and doesn’t give up much ground to power rushers.

He is a good run blocker in part due to his great strength. Paul engages defenders and drives them backwards. He is best at blocking just one player and dominating his matchup. Paul can execute his assignment and will often create space for running backs to get through.

Patrick Paul Weaknesses

Paul is just an average athlete. He has limited flexibility and also doesn’t move the quickest. Paul can struggle to get to the second level on running plays and has inconsistent results when needing to change direction. His lateral quickness as a pass blocker also leaves some to be desired.

He can struggle with athletic pass rushers, as he struggles to mirror them. Paul doesn’t have the quickness or flexibility to stop top-tier athletes on the edge, who have a quick first step and can bend around the edge.

His hand usage can help him be a more effective blocker. He needs to punch quicker in his reps to help halt defenders. Paul can also improve his hand placement, as his hand can get too wide and then he loses a rep because of that.
