Persona, Shin Megami Tensei and Catherine Could be Adapted into Live-Action Movies or TV Shows

We could be on the verge of seeing a Persona 5 live-action adaptation in the near future. According to IGN, Sega has expressed interest in expanding into film and TV by adapting Atlus-developed games.

Atlus is primarily known for its jRPGs, with franchises like Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and even Catherine. Persona and Catherine both place a heavy emphasis on the interactions between characters alongside their gameplay, and end up being quite story heavy.

Sega’s optimism about live-action adaptations for Atlus games likely comes because of the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

“Atlus’ worlds are filled with high drama, cutting-edge style and compelling characters,” said lead producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and Sonic Prime TV series Toru Nakahara to IGN. “Stories like those from the Persona franchise really resonate with our fans and we see an opportunity to expand the lore like no one has seen — or played — before.”

“Together, Sega and Atlus, are working to bring these stories and worlds to life through new mediums and for new audiences.”

The company is yet to make any formal announcement for these plans. It is worth noting that Persona 4 and 5 have gotten anime adaptations, and Persona 3 was adapted into a series of animated movies.
