Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats Preview

The stage is set for an intriguing clash at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night between the Power and Cats.

Port’s season is very much alive despite last week’s loss to Melbourne, but Ken Hinkley’s men can’t afford another slip-up with the Saints, Dogs, and Tigers still four points ahead on the ladder.

The Cats remain on top after punishing Carlton last week by a convincing 30-point margin, but the sight of the Adelaide Oval might bring back some bad memories after losing last year’s Qualifying Final to Port by a dismal 43 points last year.

On the plus side, the Cats did enact some revenge in Round 10 with a comfortable double-digit victory back at the Cattery, a game that featured three goals each from Jeremy Cameron and Tyson Stengle, as well as a monster 38 disposals from superstar midfielder, Cam Guthrie.

The Power are always a tough out at home, but statistically, the Cats look to hold a clear advantage in most areas.

Geelong is averaging nearly six more scoring shots a game compared to Port, while they’ve also been a much higher scoring outfit, and a much more efficient team when it comes to limiting turnovers.

Anyone that’s watched Geelong over the last fortnight will have noticed how crisp the their ball movement has been, and although the Power have enough talent through the midfield to combat, it’s hard to see them shutting down the Cats down for four quarters.

If last week’s loss to the Dees was anything to go by, this looks to be the final dagger in Port’s season.
