There is some fantastic racing to savour at Longchamp on Sunday with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe the undoubted jewel in the card. However, it’s sandwiched in between some high-quality races. The two-year-olds open proceedings in the Grand Criterium where National Stakes third St Mark’s Basilica can win for the all-conquering Aidan O’Brien.
That’s followed by the Prix Marcel Boussac for the fillies, with the Moygalre runner-up Pretty Gorgeous looking difficult to beat. Those looking for each-way value may side with Thunder Beauty who was only having her second start when finishing in-behind the favourite in the Moygalre and is open to further progression.
After the Arc itself, the Prix de l’Opera can go back to Ireland with Alpine Star, although the form of Jessica Harrington hard has to be a concern. With the late defection of Battaash, the Prix de l’Abbaye looks at the mercy of Glass Slippers who bids for back to back wins in the race. While Tropbeau may bounce back to his best in the Prix de la Foret.

The rain has come which means that Love is a high-profile absentee from the field. That leaves the hat-trick chasing and record chasing Enable to top the market. She’s an incredible mare and will bring the house down if she can win this illustrious race again.
The soft going has also brought Stradivarius into the reckoning given that he has stamina in spades. He was slightly disappointing over course and distance when last seen in action but may outstay his rivals. Best of the home contingent is Sottsass who finished third in this race last season and has got solid form on soft underfoot conditions which may be crucial. Deirdre will have the hopes of Japan pinned on her and Jamie Spencer is an intriguing jockey booking. She has a lot of raw ability put would appreciate better ground.
