Sonic Superstars has been around for about a month now, but Digital Foundry just published a new report on the game’s technical aspects including frame rate and resolution.

When it comes to Switch, the bottom line is that sacrifices were made to reach 60 frames per second. Even with graphical changes though, dips can happen below that mark.

Here’s the roundup of notable tidbits:

– Native 720p output in handheld mode
– No dynamic resolution scaling
– Some stages run below 720p
– Resolution seems to top out at 720p even when docked
– Texture resolution scaled back on Switch
– Surfaces largely blurry
– Texture filtering also poor
– Depth of field blur sacrificed on Switch
– Lighting cut way back as well
– No shadows in the Switch version
– Water appears opaque in the Switch version
– Switch version of Sonic Superstars targets 60 FPS
– Some hiccups early on, but mostly smooth
– Frame rate drops with too many characters or objects on screen
– More frequent frame rate issues over time
– Worst sections with frame rate drops seem to be boss battles
– Online mode runs poorly on Switch
– Switch version is very responsive with minimal input lag
