Sony State of Play

Sony hosted a new State of Play on February 1, which included some major surprises and laid the groundwork for the next year of PlayStation. The showpiece was Hideo Kojima presenting the Death Stranding sequel, officially called Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Bringing back Norman Reedus as Sam Bridges, the sequel will place more of a focus on combat while retaining the theme of connection.

That wasn’t it for Kojima, as he teased his next game, which won’t fully go into production until after the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but it will be a “next-generation tactical espionage game.”

Sonic 3 will hit theaters later this year, which is why Sega is releasing Sonic x Shadow: Generations, putting the spotlight on Sonic’s evil doppelganger in 2024. That wasn’t the only blast from the past, as Ken Levine’s first post-BioShock title, Judas, received a story trailer, but it’s still shrouded in mystery.

Smaller titles were mentioned, including Dave the Diver coming to PlayStation 5, alongside a Godzilla DLC pack. Until Dawn, the title that launched Supermassive Games is being remastered for PlayStation 5.

The Metro franchise is expanding with Metro Awakening for the PlayStation VR 2. Legendary Tales, a fantasy action game, was also announced for the VR platform.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Helldivers, both coming in the next few months, debuted new hype trailers. Foamstars arriving next week on PlayStation Plus for free to subscribers, also released a final trailer as word of mouth for the colorful new shooter is approaching a fever pitch.

Konami stole the show, however, by releasing Silent Hill: The Short Message, a free game in the storied horror franchise. Fans received the best look yet at the Silent Hill 2 remake currently scheduled for later this year. After years of pent up fan demand, expectations are high for the scariest looking horror title in years.
