Star Citizen Has Been Purchased by 1.7 Million Players

Star Citizen remains one of the fascinating games in the industry. The ambitions of developer Cloud Imperium Games have seen a constant increase in its scope, and that, in turn, has led to it become a game that’s perpetually in development and never seems closer to release. Of course, the sci-fi title has been playable in its pre-launch state for quite some time, and recently, we got details on how it’s been doing.

During a recent CitizenCon stream (via Twinfinite), Cloud Imperium Games boss and Star Citizen creative director Chris Roberts revealed that the game has over 4.1 million registered accounts, of which 1.7 million players have purchased the game.

The space-faring title has also seen a significant increase in player engagement in recent months. Throughout 2022, Star Citizen has seen over 50,000 daily players on average (up from 32,000 last year), with a peak of roughly 130,000. Its daily active users have also played the game roughly three hours per day on average, with a total play time of over 36 million hours in 2022 so far.

There’s still no word on when (or if) Star Citizen will see its long overdue full launch, but even being a persistently in-development game, it’s clearly seeing an increase in numbers in areas that count.

Less than a month ago, it was announced that Star Citizen had crossed over $500 million in crowdfunding.
