Starfield - Reveal

Starfield is the largest launch in the history of Bethesda, reaching over 6 million players within the first 48 hours of launch. That makes the title not only No. 1 for the week but in contention for the largest release of the year. The premium upgrade edition, which placed at No. 7 last week, has fallen to No. 34. As expected, the majority of physical sales were for the Xbox Series X/S version.

Debuting alongside Starfield this week were NBA 2k24, placing in 7th, while Fae Farm landed in 9th. The physical release for Crime Boss: Rockay City is lower down the chart, coming at No. 22.

The rest of the top five for this week are familiar titles, with Hogwarts Legacy in 2nd following a price promotion that brought sales 4% higher than last week, when it had a stunning 228% sales increase. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe holds steady in 3rd with a 24% drop in sales, while LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga fell slightly to No. 4 and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition rose from 6th to 5th.

For the first time, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is barely out of the top five, at No. 6 following a 23% sales decrease. Other titles experiencing sudden drops include Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which went from 5th to No. 20, losing 63% in sales week-to-week.

FIFA 23, meanwhile, fell out of the top ten to No. 11. Later this month, EA Sports FC 24 will be released, marking the end of an era as the FIFA branding has been removed from the venerable series.

The Dark Souls Trilogy at No. 31 is re-joining the chart this week, thanks to a PlayStation sale, while Cyberpunk 2077 is right behind at No. 32.

Below are the best-selling boxed video games in the UK for the week ending September 2, 2023.
