Stray Safe Mysterious Password Explained: What is the Password?

Stray players are looking for the safe’s mysterious password while exploring the Slums of the game’s cybercity.

There are quite a few hidden digital codes in Stray with some hiding in plain sight. Others require a full side quest to find, leaving some players a bit confused on where to start or where they should go next. Fortunately, for those cats a little cautious about expressing their curiosity, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s what you need to know about the Mysterious Password.

The mysterious password actually has to do with collecting Music Pages in the Slums area of Stray. It’s a convoluted quest that guides players throughout the map looking to find the code to a nearby safe.

For reader convenience, we’ll just state that the safe’s code is “1283.” Players don’t actually need to go through the quest to find it if they’re attempting the speed achievement.

Those who want the actual quest walkthrough, however, should check out the steps below:

  1. After finding the safe, you’ll find a “mysterious password” taped to the front. B-12 cannot make sense of it and any other NPCs you show it to will state that it’s actually in binary code — so “only a real geek can read this.”
  2. The Slums actually does have a resident programmer who likely can read binary code: Elliot. Taking the password to Elliot will have him reveal its true message as “DUFER BAR.” This is the same name as the local bar in town.
  3. Head into Dufer Bar and look around for a neon sign bearing its name. Just above it will be a picture, which players can knock down to reveal the safe code: 1283.
