SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘BloodRayne: ReVamped’, ‘Space Moth Lunar Edition’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and the Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 18th, 2021. I don’t to jinx anything, but I think we might be past the new release peak for the year. There are plenty of new releases today, including the remasters of the BloodRayne games, a cool Arcade Archives pick, and a wild shoot-em-up called Space Moth Lunar Edition. But the number of new games is reasonable. It does not make my hands hurt. Nor do the lists of new and expiring sales, at least at the time of writing. That will almost certainly change dramatically in the next several hours. Oh boy! Well, let’s get to what we’ve got.

New Releases

BloodRayne: ReVamped ($19.99)

BloodRayne 2: ReVamped ($19.99)

The first two BloodRayne games come to Switch with improved visuals and not much more than that. I’ll level with you, friends: I’m not a huge fan of these games and I never have been. But they do exude a certain B-game charm that I’m sure many of you will enjoy. Pretty much just straight-up mindless hack-and-slash action, but it owns its goofy theme without shame. If you enjoy one of the two, you’ll probably like the other.

Space Moth Lunar Edition ($7.99)

Here’s a solid vertical shoot-em-up from 1CC Games, who recently brought us the superb horizontal shooter Star Hunter DX. This is a souped-up version of Space Moth DX, and the improvements are certainly significant. The presentation has been improved, there are new enemies and attacks, the scoring system is much deeper, and there are new abilities to use. It’s a cool bullet-hell shooter at a very reasonable price.

Arcade Archives Raimais ($7.99)

Hey, we’ve got a Taito game this week in the Arcade Archives. It’s 1988’s Raimais, a strangely late variant on Pac-Man where you control a craft to navigate a maze and collect all the dots. As you would expect from a Taito game of this era, it adds a lot of its own wrinkles. Power-ups, boss battles, secrets, and even multiple endings. While it wasn’t the massive success that some Taito games were, I assure you this is a very neat game that any fan of maze games should check out. Hamster has done its usual fine job bringing it to the system, naturally.

Would you like to run an idol cafe? ($9.99)

I’m choosing to respect the lack of capitalization in the title, as the developers perhaps are going for some kind of e e cummings thing with it. I mean, probably not. But I’ll give them this one. Anyway, this is a visual novel where you follow the story of a very ordinary young man who gets a job at a seaside cafe and soon finds himself the object of the affections of three beautiful young women. Isn’t that always how it goes? It’s like when Zack went to work at that beach resort that one summer and ended up romancing Stacey Carosi. He already had Kelly! I don’t know, friends. I just don’t know. Make your choices and see which of the three lovely ladies you end up with, and enjoy plenty of awkward situations along the way.

Romeow: in the cracked world ($2.99)

Another game with unconventional capitalization in its title. Hmmm. Trying not to let my eye twitch here. This is a cute little puzzle game where each stage is made up of fragmented panels. You need to guide the cat to collect its yard, then bring it to its bed. There are forty levels in all, with new gimmicks being introduced as you go to keep things fresh. Not very difficult, to be honest, but I can think of worse ways to spend three bucks.

NinNinDays 2 ($9.99)

This is a visual novel where you follow the story of a very ordinary young man who is working his job at a convenience store and soon finds himself the object of the affections of two beautiful ninja women. Isn’t that always how it goes? At any rate, this is the sequel to NinNinDays. New characters, same basic idea. I suppose if you liked the first game or any of the other Days visual novels, you’ll probably get what you want from this one.

Smoots Golf ($12.99)

The Smoots are back, and this time they are golfing. Head out for forty-five holes of fun across five different locations. On top of that, you also get twenty minigolf holes to challenge. Up to four players can join in on this one in local multiplayer, or you can just go it alone. It seems like a fairly standard golf game, albeit one done up in the silly Smoots style. Very vibrant, lots of fantasy elements, goofy-looking characters. If you’re bored with Mario Golf, you might want to check into this.

Kosmonavtes: Academy Escape ($5.99)

The next installment in the Kosmonavtes series is now available on Switch. Having passed the tests and joined the team of cadets, Vala is now one step closer to her dream of reaching the stars. In this eight-chapter room escape adventure game, you’ll graduate from the academy and head to Venus, of all places. There are plenty of items to collect and lots of tricky puzzles to solve. It’s an enjoyable experience at a reasonable price, so if you are into solving puzzles you may want to give this one a closer look.

H.I.C.H. ($11.49)

This is a top-down action game with online multiplayer for up to ten players. There are multiple modes, from deathmatches to races. I haven’t been able to play this yet, but the videos and screen shots look decent enough for a game of this price point. The developers have clearly tried to pack in lots of modes and such to try to avoid things getting tired too quickly. Will it be enough? That’s a question for someone else to answer, I’m afraid.

Ice Station Z ($4.99)

So, Ice Station Z came out on the 3DS five years ago and in spite of being kind of a poor game, it found some appreciation as a kusoge in Japan. I guess bolstered by that, the developers decided to make a fancier version for the Switch. It’s a very threadbare survival game set in a cold environment that nevertheless has zombies wandering about. You have to scavenge for supplies, find shelters, and try not to die in this desolate open world. You can play alone or enjoy some multiplayer via local or online play. I’d imagine picking away at its rough edges with friends is the best way to get the most from it.
