Niantic, the creators of Pokémon Go, has revealed their new game Peridot, with a pre-registration period now live. Much like the smash-hit AR Pokémon title, Peridot is all about caring for, raising, and breeding a collection of cute creatures. While we’re still not sure what else Peridot might entail, we don’t need much convincing after even the quickest glimpse at the adorable creatures we’ve seen so far.
It’s just as well that Peridot pre-registration is now available, with the promise of more information in the coming months, and hopefully a Peridot release date at some point. It’s clear from the trailer that the game is looking to aim itself towards children and young adults, though that was very much the case with Pokémon Go, and it didn’t stop me from chasing after Weedles in my mid-twenties.
It is, however, a fair assumption that without the weight of a franchise like Pokémon supporting the game, Niantic really has to impress if it’s aiming to recreate the popularity of its catch-’em-all title. It does look like the company has learned a thing or two through the last five years of Pokémon Go development though, especially in the creature design department, as we’re already in love with the ones we’ve seen from the trailer.
