The Pokemon Company just put out a statement about Palworld, which has exploded in popularity this month following its launch.

The game has gained a great deal of popularity, but not always for the right reasons. Some have taken issue with just how similar some creatures in that title are to Pokemon. Some have gone as far as to label it “Pokemon with guns”. Developer Pocketpair has indicated that it isn’t concerned about copyright infringement, but now The Pokemon Company has weighed in.

An official statement just went up on its website. Although Palworld isn’t referenced directly, it’s clear that this is the game being referred to. The Pokemon Company said it will “investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokemon.”

The full statement reads:

“We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokemon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokemon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokemon in the future.”
