There Are Stranger Things Afoot In Kingdom Eighties – Droid Gamers

Feature image for our Kingdom Eighties news piece. It shows an in-game screen rendered in pixel art. Three teenagers are cycling on push bikes in a shadow forest. Purple slime clings to the trees behind them.

Feel like you could handle the beasts of the Upside Down better than the gang could? Why not put that to the test? Kingdom Eighties just dropped on Android. It’s a game about a small town under attack from strange monsters from another dimension whose worst enemy is a bunch of local kids on bikes.

Sound familiar? Well, it’s not exactly the same, but it’ll sure scratch the itch for fans who like things a bit stranger.

A New Era, Same Old Problems

The Kingdom series is a set of minimalist games where you play a monarch attempting to defend their realm from the hordes of monsters pushing in on its borders.

Kingdom Eighties trades horses for push bikes as you take on the role of a distant descendant of the Kings and Queens of the previous games.

It’s not the age of chivalry anymore. It’s the 1980’s, but the threat of otherworldly monsters is back, and they want the crown heirloom you possess for some evil purpose.

It falls to you to organize your friends and the kids under your authority to mount a defense against the horde of monsters trying to bust their way into your world.

Perfect Pixel Panoramas

You bike back and forwards across some gorgeously-rendered pixel art locations and choose where to spend your coins in defending your patch and expanding it against the rising threat. You might even recruit some other kids with particular sets of skills to lend to combatting the monsters.

This all comes with a ton of 80’s references and even a few nods to some urban legends. The Polybius arcade sign was a really nice touch.
